Berger 40 g.

You got a great thread going here. I am a new guy back in accuracy shooting and reloading after about a 30 year lay off. Got into trap shooting and some of you know how that goes, turning out a shell with every pull of the handle and a 25 inch kill zone. Well I'm back, only wish I still had those 35 year old eyes! Just got a smoking deal on a Cooper TAC 20 so I'm out in the shed measuring loads. I live in SW CO so there is some dog shooting and we have a great club rifle range. Wait a minute, I'll get to the point. Seems like the 32 Vmax is the popular bullet in the Tac 20. I just ordered some 40 grain Bergers, hey, I like to tinker, bought a pound of 4198 and some Varget. The 32 seems tried and true but what about the 40g B's? I know, get your ass on the bench and figure it out yourself. I would like a hint. I also have a pre 64 mod. 70 in 6mm, custom barrel from way back in the 60's, gun belonged to my grandad. On paper it shoots ok but I may want to rebarrel one of these days, staying in . 244 for those 60-75 g bullets for breezy days. Anyone who can figure out what I am talking about post a reply. I think I am going to enjoy this group. Thanks, exdimmerjock

I have an idea about your goals afar as shooting goes.
You want to shoot dogs correct? Then thee tac 20 is really good for that. also from what i make of your shooting needs you would like to rebarrel at some point your granddads rifle. correct? Theres quite a bit of information as to loads right here on the site for the twenty cals.
Try a few loads and work them up and down first, Then change seating depth in and out till you get a sweet spot.
Remember on thing at a time. changing simple things like primers can make a differance too. Right now a lot of the guys are using the wold small rifle magnum primers with great results.
Now on that 60 to 75 gr rifle i would go with a 6br for precision
shooting or the 6ppc for even more accuracy.
Some small modification may be needed for the ppc. .
If you really get bit with the accuracy bug you can find benchrest rifles tools and accesories right here on the site, Allso theres a ton of really good smiths here waiting to hellp you out, and the guys who frequent this site are square shooters. I frequent another site but this one , as far as i;m concerned is the best one yet,

ask any question and you will usually get a straight answer.

Gerry, Thanks for the good info. I have been an active member of the trapshooting discussion group, Trapshooters.com for several years. Like this group it is filled with people who are eager to help, offer advise, some of it good and who buy and sell equipment to each other including high dollar guns. It works because members trust each other. Woe be to the person who is less than completly forthright and honest, it won't be kept a secret. I have a feeling that this group is much the same and I look forward to active participation. Rich Strickland
