Berger 40 bt vs Hornady 40 vmax

I dont have eather to measure for you. My 204 is a 12 twist so i just stuck with the 35gr. Did not want to buy a box and them not stabilize

I shoot the 40gr Berger's in my 20-222 and they shoot very well. Haven't shot any of the 40 Vmax in it yet.

While individual rifles have their own bullet preferences it’s more likely that the Bergers would cut smaller groups.

40 Vmax are much lower price and readily available. Try everything to make them work in your rifle.

Me & My buddy tested these 3 brands of 20cal. the 39gr Sierra , The 40 Berger & the 40gr.v-max ...His 204 Ruger likes the Berger Best. My Pac-nor 11 twist Tac 20 prefers the 39 grain Sierra.. mikeinct

My 204 Ruger Cooper with a 1:12 and 20VT Pac-Nor with a 1:11 both like the Sierra 39gr BlitzKing over the 40gr V-max.

I’ve had better luck with other bullets than hornady. If you want cheap bullets, buy hornady.. you get what you pay for, still applies..

Ok, here's what I found with my 204 Ruger model 700 Remington. I shoot 40 Vmax, mine easily groups in the .25 area at 100 yds. Haven't had any reason to try anything else. Berger bullets speak for themselves generally. When I shoot pd's, most accurately for the money gets the nod for me.

I have a 1-10 on my LRPV .204, and it shoot's 5 40 Vmax into 3/8". Ya, I know this is a crap group, and I miss all the time because it's crap, and it forces me to spend the $15 a box of 100 somewhere else, but......... I guess I just like crap bullets?? I am NOT saying that you can't get Bergers to shoot better, but I also did not mess with seating depth or primers with the 40Vmax, so I may be able to get them to shoot better too.

I use 40gr Bergers in a 20 Vartarg for coyotes. Only because I have had to many splashes using vmax or sierras killed a bunch over 250 yards with Bergers. The 20 Vartarg is a very impressive round for a calling rifle with minimal pelt damage.

I had a CZ 527 204 that shot the factory Hornady 32gr Vmax ammo very well. Sold it to a friend and he's been stacking up coyotes with it for the last 5 years. I shoot lots of 53gr Vmax in my 223AI and 22-250 with never a problem on coyotes.

I stopped inspecting these bullets since the individual inspections don't pivot my decisions.

Instead, if a new batch gets opened up for loading, I just start by testing it with the same last tune.

If it doesn't group well or needs a different dope, I work on that regardless and none of that work depends on those bullet inspection values. I get big batches of those two, and the Sierra 39 as well.

One of them is bound to work on any given year, and then the bbls get changed and we start looking again.

After all, we are discussing varmint bullets used on prairie dogs and coyotes. If you want to press the performance out at distance, you have to tune to the specific batch.

Berger's varmint bullets have always given very eratic expansion results on coyotes for me. One will open the next pensils through. No thanks. A-max, if placed properly always expand and hardly ever exit. What's not to like.
