Berger .308 155GN Hybrids

Afternoon,

Having a little difficulty developing a good load for my Target Rifle with these Hybrids.

Running a Barnard P with Truflite six groove 11:1 76.2cm long barrel (30 inch :) ), fitted in a custom CNC v-block stock, with Phoenix Top Mount and Cooper foresight ladder ( http://oneoffprecision.com.au/2012/11/20/height-adjustable-precision-sight/ ).

Presently running the Nosler 155's with great success, 46.5 grain of 2208 ( I think you guys call it Varget ), 10 jam, gives a Vertical of less than .5 MOA at 800 metres ( metres are similar to Yards, but bigger :) ).

What have you found work with the Hydrid 155's and jump / jam etc etc, the BC of the Hybrids is just too tempting...................

Thanks in advance

Josh

Josh , short answer , find out what your barrel likes , Bryan Litz says start them 15 thou off , I did just that and both 155.5'and the 155 Hybrids work at this in my current barrel. I tried both just kissing the lands and they worked there to, so suck it and see mate you have to decide whether you want to jump or jam.
regards
Mike.

155 Hybrids and 155.5 Fullbore Bergers both shoot great loaded exactly the same in my 1:12 Bartlein 5R. I use 45.0 grains IMR 8208XBR (NO idea if it's available where you are) in Lapua Palma brass w/Wolf <or> Tula KVB-223REM primers. Seat 'em both 0.020" off the lands.

Fully capable of < .5 MOA @ 1,000 yards even though I'm usually not....

Last year I tried like crazy to make that bullet shoot. Saw the those B.C. numbers and bought 2500 of them with intension of shooting them at the Spirit of America Full Bore Match last Fall. Tried Varget, N150, XBR8208, H4895 and RE15. I have 2 palma rifles with the same chamber, 1 barrel is a .298, .3075 13 twist and the other is a .300, .308 12 twist. Both guns shoot Sierra 2156s and Berger Full Bores great but I was never able to get the same results jumping the Hybrid. I did get good results Jamming the bullet .005" and .015", but I personally hate Jamming bullets, so I just recently sold them.

When I was at the SOA match last fall, I talked to some of the best shooters we have here in the US, some are members of the US palma team and some with very heavy ties to Berger and not a one of them was shooting the 155 Hybrid. Most were shooting the Berger FullBore and some were shooting the Lapua 155.

There is a guy local that shoots them with success but he is shooting them down a 14 twist barrel at well over 3100 and he told me he has them just touching the lands.

My personal advice is try the Berger 155.5, Sierra 2156 or the Lapua 155, all three load easier then that Hybrid.

I'd second that advice. Other weight Hybrids seem easier to tune in the 308. I've struggled with the 155gn version, whereas the 155.5gn Fullbore is so jump and powder tolerant it's wonderful. I found that I had to jam the 168gn Hybrid to get it to shoot really well, but this trick didn't work for me with the 155gn version.

I recently picked up an old palma barrel off eBay for a Panda, 1-13.25 twist. Running the 155 hunting vlds in it just touching the lands with 46.6g of Varget. Did really well but had an occasional flyer. Switched to a mag primed and it settled right in and shoots in the 1s and low 2s consistently.
