Berger 220gr LR Hybrid and 300wsm tips

As per the thread title - I know there was a thread a couple of years ago with someone working up a load with the Berger 220gr LR hybrid, but they had the luxury of RL23 powder at their disposal. I need to run either H4350 (ADI2209) or H4831sc (ADI2213sc). Primers are RWS.

Has anyone out there done a workup with this bullet with either of these two powders? I'm not chasing speed with this one either, Neither powder will allow me to run this bullet over 2900fps so I'm looking for a nice stable node below 2900fps that won't trash the brass.

Setup is for F-Open - Borden BRMXD action, Brux barrel finished at 32", 9 twist. Stock is a Cerus XR, March HM optics.

Brass is ADG which I have found to be on the short side out of the box (Measured 2.085 compared to Norma which was 2.090) and I had some rounds fail to fire (primer being hit but not going bang), this was off a 20thou jump, so I may need to run a jam on this brass at least for its first firing.

Grateful for any advice.

Wasn’t the world record 1000 yard 10 shot group shot with this bullet @ 2800 fps using RL 23 and Fed 210 M primer in a 30” barrel (10 twist)
Yes, same load parameters I'm shooting.
Before using RL23 we both used H4831SC.
With 215's I used 66grs, 220"s used 64grs.

Thanks for the info - was this load jammed or jumped? Because of the short length of my ADG brass it looks like I need to jam at least for the first firing. I note the freebore on the 220 is a bit longer than the 215 so I'm making an educated guess that's why your powder charge is 2gr lower? What sort of velocity did this achieve?

Unfortunately there's no RL23 available in Australia so I need to make do with either H4350 or H4831sc. I would assume H1000 is too slow.

I'm at .025" off the lands, that shot good for me.
I lowered the charge because the 66gr load which shot very well with the 215's was a little hot and I didn't want to shoot the 220"s that hot, 64 shot good so I didn't try any other loads.
Honestly I never chronographed the 220 load, I'm sure it was slower than the 215 load as I did have to add 1.5 moa elevation compared to the 215's.
If I had to guess maybe 2775ish?

That velocity is close to the ballpark I think - 64.4gr of 2213c (H4831sc) gave me 2770fps (barrel had less than 40 rounds on it) with single digit ES and SD for 5 shots (4.6 and 1.6) that was with a 20 thou jump, group also looked promising. My issues arose when I attempted to work loads with virgin ADG brass which appeared too short for the chamber and wouldn't go bang. Hopefully jamming them will help solve this.

My recent load work up, 300yd, Berger 215hybrid, H4831sc, BR2 .010 off the lands, 32" barrel with 150 rounds on it. 65.20gr/2794fps looked good, I haven't tried 65.00 or 64.80 yet. Started with 3 shot group T-4, then 5 shot T-8, T-12 round robin was a mess, T-13 was shot again to confirm, I was fireforming new ADG brass in my no turn neck barrel.

edit:

I made some decent progress last weekend. The attached screenshot of the Hexta target shows two different powder charges - 64.5gr of 2213sc and 64.8gr of 2213sc (H4831sc). I also ran two different primers across the 15 shots. I wasn't focused on shooting a clean score but managed to do so and it probably just reiterates how accurate the 300wsm is with a decent load.

Conditions were cool (about 16 degrees Celsius) and the wind was variable, with a right to left crosswind which would frequently turn into a shifty little headwind causing some vertical.

Shots 1-5 was with S&B large rifle primers, charge was 64.5gr and averaged 2778fps with an ES of 10.5fps and SD of 3.6fps. After shot 1, then then held for shots 2-5 which seemed quite consistent.
Shots 6-10 were with RWS large rifle primers, charge was 64.5gr and averaged 2768fps with an ES of 14fps and SD of 4.9fps
Shots 11-15 were with S&B large primers, charge was 64.8gr and averaged 2797fps with an ES of 10.3fps and SD of 4fps. There was a hint of vertical with this load although it did produce two pin holes at 600 metres which was decent.

All loads were seated at a 10thou jam. For this particular test I give the advantage to the S&B large rifle primers which just seemed to produce more consistent results.

I went up to 65.2gr but groups opened up and there were a couple of bolt lifts which started to get a bit stiff. This particular barrel seems happy around 2780fps. I also managed to acquire a good load at 60.9gr of 2209 (H4350) which averaged 2790fps and produced even tighter load data than 2213sc but I have not had a chance to test that at distance yet.

Continued my testing last weekend and quite happy with the results - again, virgin brass with just the case necks chamfered and deburred shoots well. Shot a 60.9 (100.9) at 700 metres. Accuracy seems best around 2770-2780fps with 64.6gr of 2213sc (H4831sc). RWS primers and the 10 shots showing an ES of 12 with SD of 4. Bullets were seated at a 10 thou jam. Not sure where the next node is after this one, but if it's up around 2850fps I'm fairly confident I'll run into pressure issues quickly. In the absence of RL23 in Australia, I think this will have to do for now. I do feel confident that this load isn't going to do anything untoward and isn't stressing the brass so it should put me in good stead for when temps start rising over here.

Happy to hear thoughts or any other info people may have with this projectile.

How long are you guys loading these rounds? COL or BTO? I just used a throating reamer on my SAMMI chamber yesterday.

Edit. I ask because the charge weights seem high but I used H4350. I will try H4831sc next time. I loaded 210VLD’s at 60.5. Just to try out. I will check for a max load next time I load and shoot.

At BTO I'm at 2.380 which is a 10 thou jam or thereabouts - I'm running a .220 freebore. The 220gr doesn't mind being jammed but I'm playing with jump at the moment and 25thou off the lands looks ok too.
