Berger 184 Hybrid kills

I have used the following for deer and hog hunting with very good results:
105 Hybrid, 130 Hybrid OTM, 140 Hybrid, 215 Hybrid, 230 Hybrid OTM. These bullets have worked well for me for many kills. Up close and at distance. YMMV.

I know the Hybrids work on animals. I killed a mule deer at 600 yards with a 215 this year and it worked great. I talked to a gunsmith yesterday and he mentioned 2 of Juan clients tried them on deer and had pencil in, pencil out. I was hoping to get some others opinions as no matter what bullet, people seem to have good and bad experiences. Just haven’t heard any good ones yet.

Opposite for me.......wacked a white tail at 500ish and it made jello of....well....I made jello!!! In in front of the shoulder ended up on the hide behind the opposite shoulder. No big bones. Would have made Bill Cosby proud!!

I used the 215 hybirds this year for the first time in my 30-28. They gave me 1/4 to 1.2 moa accuracy, which was awesome. I dropped my mulie at 805 with one shot. The elk was at just under 600 and required two follow up shots. On both animals, the bullets expanded quite fine. The shot on the deer exited and none on the elk did. My only concern with the bullets is that on 3 of the 4 shots, the bullets hit and made 30 to 45 degree turns. Both animals were within 10 degrees of a perfect broadside. I have killed a couple hundred big game animals and never seen that sort of wild directional change before. It made be re-think the single-bullet theory......... :-)

I've read that trimming or pointing the meplat will cause them to pencil through. No experience with it I dont do either and have had good results with Berger non hunting and hunting bullets

Maybe I’ll buy some ballistic gel and shoot them and test it. It’s hard to test expansion any other way, unless it’s on a live animal.

If your hunting with Bergers then you need to check the tips to make sure they are open. A simple straight pin works fine. If blocked then use a small drill bit to open it up. Some of mine have had close to 20% with blocked tips. The blocked tips will pencil through an animal. Great hunting bullets as long as you take the time to check.

I have been checking that recently. I was surprised at how many were closed. A lot more than 20 percent for me. This was counting any sort of blockage. The ones that were totally sealed were close to what your saying.
