Berger 140 Hybrid Jump/jam

Curious what jump/jam you folks have found work well for you and your rifles with the 140gr Berger Hybrid. I expect to see quite a variety of answers, just looking for a possible trend to conserve the unicorn bullets. This will be a deer/speed goat gun.

Spinning up a new 6.5x47 barrel Friday, looking through my old notes on previous barrels I’ve had good luck at .005” jam, .010-.015” jump and .040” jump. This is data from my 600 yard BR/F-class rifle.

What have you guys settled on?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry that I cannot help myself you would probably get a more consistent answer asking the barrel .
But in all seriousness I Jam everything takes out a few variables and it works for me just gotta learn how to load accordingly

I personally stay away from jamming on my hunting rifles.

I have had quite a few 6.5x47 barrels and have always jumped. My best loads have been the 135 hybrid hunters (and 135 JLKs) jumped around 0.070". This has produced many groups under 0.1" and my wife shot a 3-shot string in one tactical match that measured 5/8" at 1,000 in the X-ring with that load.

You have to find what YOUR RIFLE likes. Try this:
A general rule of thumb with the Berger Elite Hunter and Hybrid Target bullets is to start your bullet seating depth testing at .015" off the lands. Then you work back into the cartridge case in .015" increments (.015",.030", .045", .060"). When you find a bullet seating depth that shows promise, you can test .005" to either side of that CBTO if you wish to see if accuracy can be improved. All bullet seating depth testing is done using the starting powder charge!

I understand every rifle is different and testing must be done to find what it likes. I do all my BR rifle load development at 600 yards using ladder tests and I have tested throughly, sorting bullets, sorting brass by weight, sorting by water volume, different neck thickness, different bushings, seating depths from jammed to .100” jump, measured powder to the kernel on the best scales, I’ve even sorted primers by weight. I’m not looking for a shortcut, I’m looking to see if there is a trend that people are finding that works for them.

You have my admiration. As much as I love to shoot small groups, I just can't bring myself to that level of dedication.

This may not be “Benchrest ideology,” but I usually use .2gr increments for charge weight and .006” increments for seating depth. If I have a load that shoots well at 39.2gr but not at 39.1 or 39.3, to me that’s not a node. Same for seating depth - if it shoots at .040, I expect it to shoot the same at .043 and .037 as well.

My expectation of a ‘node’ is that it’s receptive to minute changes. If it drastically changes given a small variance in charge or seating, I’m going to continue testing.

I know this is an old thread, but I just inherited 700 Berger 140 gr. Hybrid targets. With a Saami Spec'd chamber for 6.5 Creedmoor, if you seat the bullet to the neck / shoulder junction, you have .150" of jump. If you push the bullet out .075 thousandth's, you only have about .150" of bearing surface and still have .075" jump. What were your findings?

I have a JGS 6.5x47 reamer with a .296” neck and .170 freebore, I jump 140 hybrids .028” using the wheeler measuring method. That’s where the bullet is in my case at touch.
