Berger 105 Hybrid report in my new 6BR

Target pic is of my new 6BR on a Kampfeld smithed 700 action and Bartlein .236 8 twist barrel in the match I shot today. Had shot 2 matches previously with the Hybrids @ .010 off the lands like my Dasher but it just was not quite there. So I did a seating depth test yesterday with 3 @ .005 off, 3 @ .010 off, 3 @ .015 off and 3 @ .020 off. Gun zipped them all thru same hole @ .005 off. .010 was decent and further away I went worse it got. 450 primers and 29.5 H4895 under the Hybrids. These bullets IMHO are awesome. Circled hole was my sighter. Conditions were over cast with little to no mirage and about a 10 MPH wind moving to the right.

Now thats a shooter. May have to try these in my 6BR. What does the load chrono?
Barrel length? Thanks for sharing. 8)

Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul, load chrony's 2,835 fps. Barrel length of 28 inches. I did try BR-4's previously in this combo but groups opened up slightly. I also performed an OCW test with Varget, BR-4's and Lapua Scenars but was disappointed with that combo. Both my Dasher and 6BR like H4895, Hybrids and 450 primers.

Nice looking target there Frank. Good shootin' and thanks for the report. One question though... how much neck tension? :) WD

Thanks Wayne, my loaded round is .267 (.269 neck) and i am using a .266 Redding Tin bushing. I had 2 here and the first one was oversizing the case neck to around .265, tried the 2nd one i have and they are coming out of the die measuring .266 for .001 neck tension. I have previously had issues with some of Redding's bushing's not being exact as far as the diameter. This rifle seems to really like .001 neck tension as does my Dasher. I am sizing 2/3rds of the neck.

Frank,
Nice shooting!!! Are you shooting the Hybrids right out of the box or sorting in any way and what freebores are your rifles set up with for the Hybrids??? Again great targets... Thanks, Mike

What kind of velocity are you getting with 4895 in your dasher? And how much are you dumping? Thinking of trying it as my new lot of varget doubled my group sizes.

I'm going to be loading up the 105 Hybrids for the first time, 450 primers, Varget, 28" barrel, 1:8.

Frank, interesting to see that a 0.005" jump worked best in your rifle.
Berger (Bryan Litz) suggests 0.015" jump as a starting point. Is 0.015" a good place to start or would I be better loading closer to the lands, what have others found?

Mike, I am sorting the Hybrids by bearing surface on my Buhay Comparator. And they are all withing .003 bearing surface. I did weigh one box first and they were all within .2 of a grain so I quite weighing them. As far as the freebore, Kampfeld used a throating reamer to set the rifle up for Lapua 105 Scenars with a dummy round I supplied. His 6 BR reamer has a freebore of IIRC .069? So I really don't know the exact freebore. The junction of the boattail and bearing surface is above the neck shoulder junction maybe .025.

I started at .010 off the lands and it actually shot pretty good, but I was thinking it could do better so I did the seating depth test and came up with the .005. I would think you will be in the ballpark starting anywhere from .005 to .015 off the lands.

Depending on the mirage ,we see 6mm holes at 500 meters with 36x scopes & up. Most clubs around here have them printed for their shoots.

Where can I get those ground hog targets? Can you see the holes at 500 yds?

As Madmixerman said we can see bullet holes at 500 meters (547 yards) in good conditions. If you need a GH target PM me and I will send you one folded up and take it to your local Staples or Office Max and they will print a quantity. Guaranteed my target I send to you has no holes and was a freebie. 8)

H4895 (or AR2206H) is also my favourite powder in my previous and current Dasher. 32gn in my old Dasher was a consistant grouper, while my new dasher prefers 31.4gns. It doesnt foul as badly as Varget in either barrel.

Cigarcop, yes Karl builds one heck of a rifle. Took him 9 months to do the 40X conversion and fit/chamber the barrel. He actually was not taking any rifle work last year but i kind of snuck this one in on him. :)
Well worth the wait!

One hell of a nice guy to boot,... I always enjoy talking with him :)

Sorry if I missed this posted somewhere but what's a good starting load of H4895? I'm shooting a 6mm BR 1:8 twist Savage F with a 30" barrel.

Thanks
