Bergara bolt in REM 700

Does anyone know or have any experience using a Bergara premier bolt in a Remington 700? I have a stripped 700 I need a bolt for and I know the Bergara premier bolt has a floating bolt head. If a premier bolt works in a regular B14, shouldn’t a premier bolt work in a standard 700 since they are essentially the same thing?? Any comments are appreciated

You should never swap bolts between guns without at the very least, measuring to know where it puts you in terms of headspace AS WELL as proper clearances from the end of the bolt to the bbl tenon. Yes, in some customs they are machined close enough to interchange but a factory action and/or bolt is a lottery strike, particulary to a completely different maker. Be safe first! It might work but you should KNOW either way BEFORE you pull the trigger and not use it as a test fixture.

Yes I know. I wasn’t going to screw on any barrel and try to go shoot it. I will look at the prints for both of actions to see how similar they are as well as overall bolt fitment. I was speaking with my dad last night and he mention the firing pin sear possibly not being in the right spot either. He does some minor smith work on the side so we have access to proper measuring tools. I just liked the idea of a floating bolt head on a Remington 700. You’d think someone would have come out with an aftermarket replacement part like that but who knows

Does not fit I have both and have tried it so NO

Edit: I have a B14 HMR action with the stock bolt and it does not fit a 700 and
the premier and HMR bolts are interchangeable. It will not insert into the Remington action due to the anti binding cuts in the bolt heads are slightly off.
Probably intentional.

For a period, it was a fairly common mod, putting a Savage bolt head on a Remington bolt. I did a few myself. But there's more to it than meets the eye. I think one or more of the custom action makers is doing this now but I don't remember who. Yes, it can be done but if everything is trued up, I don't see the point in it. A std rem has a counterbore in the back of the bbl, where a savage is flat, too. Just check everything before swapping parts between actions is all I'm saying. The liklihood of everything being right is not very good at all.

Thanks for the info. I greatly appreciate it. It was a thought I had while looking at my next rifle build. Glad I’m not the only one who has thought this might work

Mack Bros Switch rifle has an interchangeable bolt head

The Mack Bros SA 'standard' bolt was a direct swap for MY .223 700 bolt. Can't speak to the Bergara.

Thanks everyone for the input. It was just a thought I had that stemmed from me emailing PT&G and them saying their coned rem 700 bolt would work in a B14. (Was looking for a 223 bolt face for a Bergara.) I knew I could get a bolt from other places I was just curious if anyone knew about the Bergara compatibility. Once again thanks

Bolts require fitting to the receiver in regard to headspace and other critical clearances. The PTG(and others) also require this. It will work...after proper fitting..IOW. Bolts are not a drop in part, unless you are very lucky. Still, you gotta check everything and assume nothing when replacing a bolt.
