Beretta 92FS

I have a question that has probably been asked many times but I can not find a definitive answer online and I even looked through the Beretta web site and manual, several times. I am having trouble getting right sight picture for a 92 FS. I found a picture showing the three most common types of sight pictures. I was brought up, and most often use, the sight picture in "Sight Image 2." The only problem is I have found some people mentioning on other models of the 9mm Beretta that they use "Sight Image 3." I am just trying to see if anyone can give me a sold answer, Thank You.

Which ever one will put rounds where you want them. Seriously, depends upon ammunition choice, your grip and trigger control and how your pistol left the factory. It was designed around 9mm NATO ammunition which would be 124 gr. bullets at pressures somewhat above SAAMI spec. Go shoot it and have fun!

Kermit,

Like MTM says, it depends upon your ammo. Find one which supports your preferred sight picture. I load mine to support #3, since I use night sights. #2 or #3 works in competition with little adjustment between day/night.

It has been my experience that the self defense pistol should be used off of a good rest, using sight picture #2 to find which brand of ammo shoots the most accurately and functions flawlessly. Having said that, in the profession I retired from, "our" tactical schools taught that in a firefight, you should use the front sight only! This was taught because the VAST MAJORITY of firefights are less than 5 yards away. When I was in those tactical schools, the "average" gun battle, with the Police, was fought at 2.4 yards! Holding a bit high or a bit low is inconsequential, at those distances. Now as a cadet, in the Academy, as well our "qualification" course was to hold the sights as picture #2 and shoot for accuracy. However, the tactical schools was a bit different because the Officers were far more likely to enter a gun battle in Narcotics Division or The Rapid Response Group charged with tackling complete crime ridden areas with a tool called Zero Tolerance. T-Rust me, they are very dangerous units and only the BEST tactical training will keep you going home at the end of your shift.

Sight picture, under immediate threat, MUST be absolutely quick. That is why "Front Sight" training is of paramount importance.

I would suggest a good grip upgrade. I struggled with mine for a longtime after moving to it from 6 shooters. The new grips made a Huge difference. I'd have to dig it out but I think it's the Hogue, that I got. For me, the factory grip was too round and felt like a broom handle. Then it's good to practice, ALOT. trying to build muscle memory. Good luck.

Answer really depends on your intended use for the pistol. If this is a plinker/target pistol then choose what works best for you. If this is a duty/carry pistol then ShootDots is spot on.

Good Shooting.

I like ShootDots answer, But I wish pistols had sights that were fine like a rifle sight.. Honestly in a rapid fire fast on target situation like Ben (ShootDots) stated your focus will be on target and squeezing off shots.. Buy a laser grip..
