Benchrest Seminar

Benchrest Seminar
On April 6, 2019 Bob White and I will be hosting our annual Benchrest Seminar at the Cherry Ridge Gun Club in Highland Lakes, NJ. This seminar is a two part class. You do not have to come to both parts but to come to the second class you must have attended the first. The first is held at the main club house meeting room. We will cover a variety of subjects from the history of organized Benchrest, to the style of rifles, basic reloading for these rifles, prep and care of the brass, bench setup and rests, tuning of your rifle and reading the wind with wind flags. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers.
The second session will be actual bench time shooting on the range. This date will be April 13, 2019. You will be give a choice of what style target you want to shoot at 100 yards. Either two Score or two Group targets will be made available. There will be some equipment available on a limited bases with a coaching staff to help you understand some of the techniques you saw the week before. If you want to bring your own rifle and rest please bring them. We ask you to make sure they are in safe operating condition and it is zeroed for 100 yards. You must have eye and ear protection to shoot.
I would like to thank the product contributors for their generous donations that at this time is over $1000.00 worth of products. Two of those contributors is Sightron Scopes and Capstone Precision Group the sole distributor of VihtaVuori powders and Lapua Brass.
This seminar has launched the successful Benchrest career of quite a few shooters that have went on to become regulars at our Registered Matches.
All level of shooters are welcome to the Seminars from the beginner to the seasoned shooter. The cost of the seminar will be $10.00 for the classroom day and $15.00 for the shooting day.

That's incredibly cheap for the quality of information provided. I wish I could afford to attend, but the cost of driving, hotels along with meals and incidentals would run well over a grand, maybe more.

I think that if someone or some group would put together a comprehensive video and written material package, it would sell quite well. It seems that everything posted on the free internet always leaves out the most crucial information, and I know I would pay a fair price for GOOD information.

Have fun and good shooting!

That is actually a great idea. I have gone to free Continuing Education classes where the instructor had the class video-taped and it then became part of a Paid On Line Course.

I will bounce this off Bob and Harley, who I hope to see in advance of the session. The first phase, the Seminar is inside and would be tapeable while the follow week is basically shooting a match, which could be taped too as a reference.

I think it would be a great way to expand the PA Original 1000 Bench Rest School too. Another added feature would be that the presenters would be immortalized for future generations to learn from their experience and expertize.

There’s more than one Harley Baker. By that I mean there is someone in each and every corner of America, who with some prodding, could hold a seminar. I’ve done it twice in Michigan and in both cases it was well received and attended. I did it wrong in that I felt I needed tons of contributions to get people to attend. The preparation time due to all the merchandise solicitations took months. But, you too can have a school in your region. All it takes is a commitment from YOU, the guy I the mirror.

Plenty of great shooters around the country as you said. The problem is getting people to dedicate their time to it, hence why a video of some of the classes available, would probably sell in areas where classes will not happen or don't make sense, or where it is not possible to attend. Tony Boyer I am sure sells plenty of books to those on here and Benchrest.com. Someone else's books also sell.
