Benchrest Front Rest. Bang for Buck

Looking to spend ~200-300 on a front rest for a flat bottom stock for one of my bench rest rifles. Which, front rest would you recommend. You have the cheaper caldwells and then it seems like there is a huge gap in price and you get to the farley, seb, sinclair, etc. What's a very nice mid range rest?

You can get a Sinclair windage rest 300$ to 400$ probily best deal for the money.
The bald eagle is cheaper but the one I seen did not function very well .
Just my opinion. I own a Sinclair and a seb neo there the best .

Give these a look. Very well made and he will customize to your liking. I don't know anyone who has one that complains about it.
A little more than $300, mine was $450 delivered, and if I had to buy again I wouldn't hesitate to buy over again.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the new Bald Eagle rests. You won't get anything better at twice the price. Just stay clear of the cable drive models.

Check out RW Hart & son in Nescopeck Pa. They make a really good rest for the money. Lots of adjustment and very solid. All kinds of options available. Matt

I also have the Bald Eagle and was very impressed for the price. Got two of their front bags also.

Dan Greenlaw in Maine for sure. He makes some very good stuff, and he is very reasonable. I'd take his stuff over a Bald Eagle any day of the week. When Gebhardt owned and made Bald Eagle rests they were nice. Now they are made in China and in my opinion they are nowhere near the rest they once were.

Best bang- for- the- buck, windage top front rest in my part of the world is/was made by Joe Cowan. Actually, Joe didn't make them, the rests were made by his students.

Anyway, these rests should give you everything you need , at the price you requested. Google "Joe Cowan front rest" and you will find all the info and pics you need.

Only problem is that I am not completely certain that the rest is still made...or, if there is a very long waiting list. At the very least you could put these on your radar for a used one, and place a "wanted" ad.

I like my bald eagle, I took the cable off and modified the knob to adjusted the windage. It's smooth and good enough for what I do!

I have 2 original Bald Eagles bought new and delivered to the match by the man himself. I have seen and shot off a newer Bald Eagle as now marketed by Bullets.com. The shooter who bought the newer rest is a veteran competitor who had Bald Eagle rests in the past and is also a meticulous riflesmith. His conclusion is the newer rest is every bit as good as the Lock Haven produced model- provided you remove that flex drive cable set-up which is unsuitable for competition use. I paid ~ $375 fourteen years ago for the same rest that is on their website for $165.

I saw one at a score shooting match at Bowmantown PA back in 2013. I was watching the guy next to me shoot and after he was done I said I have one of the old slingshots and it was pretty nice and he told me that this thing is a piece of junk and he was pointing out what was wrong with it. It looked like a poor excuse compared to my old slingshot.

IIRC, they were reintroduced in 2013 and there was a thread on this site about a new model having stripped threads. The model I used was purchased last year. Perhaps Wang and Zhang figured out how to assemble them. Not doubting you, just think that it is hands down the best bargain out there, and I'm sure Bullets. com would replace a defective one. See you at Bowmanstown.

I looked at them at the Pennsdale gun show when they first came out. It was a few miles down the road from Grizzly. The ones I looked at had a lot of slop in the top. I know it wouldn't worked for long range shooting. It was that bad I wouldn't wanted to test at 100 with it. Maybe they changed now but it wasn't near as good as my original slingshot. Matt

That is what caught my eye with the guy next to me. I saw the top rock back & forth every time he pulled the trigger.

I remember you now Lamar. I shot against you twice at Bowmantown in 2013, my first year competing. I was shooting on the same bench with Shinny, in fact I'm the one who bought that teal colored Scoville stocked Bat model B that Shinny waited over 3 years for.

I think the New Bald Eagle is a quality rest. I'm not a fan of the cable windage. I have 2 of the Bill Gebhart Bald Eagles.
