They keep my ear muffs off of the stock and allow me to keep my head a little more upright when behind the gun. Definitely more comfortable for me. I use Harrells, not sure of any other manufacturers making them.

I use Harrell's on my benchrest rifle, it helps me keep from touching the stock with my face. More comfortable as well.
