Benchrest Action

Hi,

I found most folk using Right Bolt , Left Port for benchrest shooting.

The Viper SS Action do not have an ejector on their bolt. So, how to remove those fired brass? Have to release all bolt out for remove fired brass as this clip? (.308 win caliber, So drop port do not available)

Check out this video on YouTube:

gsg, A couple of things. First unless you already own a Viper or have a friend that is going to sell you one you can just forget about getting one of those. Stiller hasn't delivered a Viper in over three years, mine was on order for almost 4 years before I just gave up on them.

The absence of an ejector is pretty common on benchrest rifles. You do not have to extract the bolt like in that video to remove the fired case. You just flick it out with your finger very simple to do and easy to get used to. The reason benchrest rifles ( the ones that do not have an ejector) don't use an ejector as you don't want your brass that you have spent hours on prepping and the cost of match quality brass is high any way, being thrown all over the place.

gsg5pk,

I have a Stiller Diamondback and Bat B, both are RB LP, no ejector. Just reach in and pull it out. The guy on the clip must be shooting a round larger than his port.

Just a really minor correction to the Stiller Viper SS timeline: I called Stiller on March 26, 2010 and asked Russ if they had a Viper SS RBLP. He replied that they did not but had a RBRP on the shelf and it was all they had. I asked when they would be making more. Russ said that Jerry didn't expect to make any more for at least two years. I bought it and sent the check and two barrels to be fitted that day. It's funny you should post this today as it will be three years, tomorrow. So, I think the last one they sold was three years ago. ;) [br]
As for lack of ejector: Drop Ports aside (my Viper SS is a 6BR and DP), my three BAT 3 lugs are all ejectorless. As Mark said, just reach in there and snag it. I shoot F-Class, but we like to shoot fast sometimes, too.

I just got a reply from Russ that he has Stiller Viper SS RBLP on shelf but seem like he tried to recommend me to go with Stiller P1000 1.55" which RBLPRE.

So, which one is better? (I don't have an experienced with none ejector action. So, need some recommend.)

• Stiller Viper SS RBLP (None Ejector)
• Stiller P1000 Short 1.55" RBLPRE (Dual Port with ejector)

Boyh items are on shelf.

Very happy with my Bat SV's, and Bruno carries them in stock. Telephone ordered my last one and had it in 7 days. What waiting period?

I agree, getting an action OR a response from Stiller is like winning the lottery.

I emailed Jerry last week about ordering a PredatorV. Got an email from Mary Beth the next day (Jerry and Russ were busy). Action was on the shelf and shipped, arriving this week. No complaints from my end on the service or response time, and I've been very happy with the 6BR pronghorn rifle I built in 2009 based on a PredatorV.

Don't get me wrong guys I think Stiller builds a great action, trouble is getting one.

gsg, If they do have a "Viper on the shelf" then that speaks to who they are. I know at least 6 people who have been waiting more than two years for one. I waited 4 years and finally gave up. If they have one and havn't shipped it to one of these folks waiting that length of time, then I want nothing to do with anything they make, ever.

They have Viper SS RBLP on shelf. Your guys may waiting for Viper Aluminium?

I guess those ports must be really long, because on a normal Rem 700 I could never just flick one out like that, When I bring bolt back I just catch brass as bolt is almost all the way open. how long are those ports. I always wondered about not having an ejector

thanks hombre

as far as stiller is concerned any time I have called them Russ has always been right there to answer, also Stiller is making the action for Shilen, I bought one a month or so its a Rem clone I guess same as the P1000, what ever one is clone to rem 700,
I like it real well, I had Shilen shoulder a HV barrel in 30BR, I broke it in and fire formed at a match couple wks ago it was really windy 20 mph , snowing and it showed big promise, but it's the guy behind the gun who isn't worth shooting I had a dam 4x going and blew my fifth shot either the wind or I chocked, over all score I don't remember but I remember someone saying my x count was good I think 18 for the day, in the hands of a good shooter I'm sure it would do as well as any other action, I also for got to bring my flags, but like I said I can't read the wind for Shit, going to practice that.
