belted magnum cases

Is there any advantage to turning the belts off these cases?
Ive been kicking round the idea of getting a reamer ground for a 7stw with a few minor changes but mostly without the belt and headspace off the shoulder. I have access to a lathe, but is this worth it or not?
Thanks.

I don't think it can harm anything as the belt is mainly there to sell the cartridge - macho magnum look!! To my knowledge there is no useful gain in strength. But on the other hand you can headspace off the shoulder even with the belt still there. Anybody that neck sizes only, or just bumps the shoulder with a FL die is doing just that. If the gun has a magazine, then the change may affect the feeding as the feed rails could be too far apart.

Take a look at the 375 Ruger case necked down to 7mm. It's got me to start thinking anyway (and I have STW's). RWS is (I heard rumer :-[) going to be importing brass this year and the 6.5-8 x 68 case is also in this class/range.

ill take a look at the ruger case, i just got alittle over 500 stw cases from my dad so thats what prompted the idea, ill have to keep an eye out to see if RWs does in fact import the 68 cases....thanks for the info.
