Belted Cases

I'm not new to reloading,35+ years).
I've never reloaded a belted case before.,300 Win Mag)
Any tips, tricks, or cautions I need to know about before I embark on this endeavor?
Thanks,
Mike Sherman

Mike -- after a few firings, the area ahead of the belt will get fat and give you a click...seems Larry Willis' Innovative Technoligies Die fixes this though...

When i shot a 300 goodling, and 30 Hart, they were set to headspace off the shoulder, and i would recommend the same, as the rims are no consistant, nor stable.

:)Shermy - how'd you resist the urge to load for those belted magnums for 35 years???

I've had a number of 'em over the years - jb is right - do your best to ignore the belt, try to headspace off the shoulder instead of the belt. The .300 Win mag reponds really well to 180 grain bullets and heavier, along with Reloader 22 and other slow burning powders. A 26" barrel,or longer) helps too.

Enjoy - the .300 Win mag is one heck of a cartridge. I never had an animal come back and ask for a second shot 'cause the first wasn't good enough...

Regards, Guy

I use Redding components, awaiting order arrival. I'll have to check out the Larry Willis item.
Aren't the belts on Lapua brass consistant?
Will fireforming cause the case to headspace off the shoulder?
Thereafter necksize only? Or bump the shoulder? I have .002 - .010 shellholders.
I'm I correct in assuming if I full length resize everytime I'll just be stretching the case ahead of the belt every firing. Not a good thing.
Thanks,
Mike

Jason, I found the Larry Willis site...lots of good info there in the FAQ's

Mike
