Being disorganized is costly

Well @Bamban, I have the converse of that. I went looking for a rifle that I bought several years ago and couldn't find it in any of the safes. I went back through some old e-mails and found out that I had sold it less than a year after buying it to a guy on another site because he wanted it so badly. So I'm out the gun and all the time I spent looking for it.

The variable eyepiece on my Zeiss spotter took a hit, I went looking for the fix one. I combed every boxes, every drawer, unloaded all gun safes it was nowhere to be found.

I have a wall to wall to ceiling cabinets on one side of my reloading room, reluctantly I decided to check the top cabinets, down to the last door, still no eyepiece. What I found instead is a pristine complete1903A3 3.5M S/N bedded in a nice wood stock. No barrel.

For the life of me I have no recollection on when I acquired it and from whom.. Santa must have put it there. I could not even ask the wife as she does not know what I have in the room. Otherwise she would have been a great source. She remembers all the birthdays of everybody on both sides of the family, and she does not use the address book on her phone, she can dial anyone we know from memory.
Now I'm wondering if your wife and my wife are sisters . When I can't find something , or need a item , It's , "Honey ; where's the"....... , and I get that "LOOK", as she goes to get it for me . Know that feeling , all to well . And yup , Getting old does S-U-C-K ! Just wish my 71 year old body could keep up with my 40 year old ego .

A couple years ago I decided that I need to upgrade my Dies for 308 Win. I hadn't shot it much in a while, but expected too. So I bought a Redding Comp set with Type-S FL Bushing sizer. Guess what I found in my die storage area? I wrote it off to age LOL.

GONRA keeps from "double purchasing" (most dreaded Reloading Hobby Scourge) by maintaining detailed inventory files on my trusty Dell Laptop.
As you guys suggested, its easy to buy all sorts of extra stuff you already have. At 84 years olde just have to remember the !@#$% file names.
Oh Well...
I use a spreadsheet to keep track of all my reloading purchases and what I have in my stash. The only problem is I then know exactly how much I have put in to it and when the wife asks it takes some quick thinking to avoid getting the evil eye.

I resemble this thread….

And I’ve started cussing more as I get older.

Mostly when looking for things I know I have but can’t find. Which results in a (insert colorful cuss words) when I do find what I was looking for. Generally, right where I left it…..

Thank god there isn’t video.

I recently had a Redding .223 bushing die modified to accept 6mm case necks for my 6x45. Well the brass I'm using needs a .262/.263 neck bushing, I scoured the net and nobody seems to have both in stock at the same place. I finally found them and got them ordered off of ebay and way over paid for steel bushings. Got them in and now using the .263 bushing and decided to put back the .262 so I would know where it is. When I went to put it in my spare parts box I found a whole set from .261-.265!
Just ordered a bunch of Redding bushing storage boxes.... dang it!

Hone them out to .2625 and .2635.

i've misplaced my share of stuff... usually as a result of moving it to somewhere where i'll be sure to quickly find it the next time i need it... and this whole process is often the result of searching for something else entirely unrelated.... whereupon i discover the treasured article i just know i'll need in the near future.

rinse and repeat.

Man, Don’t feel bad. I’ve got double and triple of everything. And, not by choice. :(

Right with you. I've found it's less frustrating to just get a replacement than squander a bunch of time looking for an item that I can't find. That's why I have 3 Sinclair neck turners, only 2 of which I can find. Probably lent one out to someone who can't remember where & when he got a neck turner. I have started writing my name down inside the boxes of anything lent out, and the name of whoever I may have borrowed something from. The last was a go gauge for a 243 AI. Told the guy, as I wrote his name on a piece of tape on the gauge and left him a note to remind him to ask me for it back. His memory's not much better than mine.

Took a couple years off from shooting and reloading. Just now getting back into it with my son who's shown some interest in pulling triggers. I sit in my reloading room sometimes and say to myself, "I know I have this... Now where the hell is it???" So I started cleaning up a little and I've been pleasantly surprised at what I've found.

How many of you guys have that mysterious "twilight zone layer" just above your shop floor? You know, that thin layer where tiny dropped things disappear forever.
I have it. That bearing from Savage bolts. I have never heard one fall and I have never found even one.
