Been away for a while... Bore Solvent Questions

Hello! If you caught my last post or two you might have read that I have been away from the shooting sports for a few years due to having kids/life/work/etc. I am shopping around for more bore solvent for both rifle and handgun shooting. In the past, I always used Shooter's Choice mixed with Kriol for the rifles and straight SC for handguns. It seems like there are a LOT of new solvents on the market that I should give a look. What solvents and cleaning products do you like and would recommend?

Thanks!

Andy

I have been using Sharp-Shoot-R Patch Out with the accelerator for the last 3 years. Let it sit for a bit and patch it out. Wont hurt the barrel if left sit for days. I have been very impressed with how well it works. I see no reason to use anything else for my cleaning.

I've been using Shooters Choice for a long time also. It has always done what it is supposed to rather well.
However if there is something new that is being used by a lot of people I would give it a try.

I like Butches bore shine. It seems to dissolve powder better than most and also does a good job on copper. I use Iosso to go after the carbon in the throat as needed. I tried wipe out and it did not work well for me with the RL15 that I shoot.

For jacket bullets (copper fouling), I've use Shooter's Choice for 20+ years and see no need to change.

For lead bullets, I use Hoppe's No. 9 to remove powder residue followed by Shooter's Choice Lead Remover which does a great job removing any residual lead that Hoppe's does not take out.

I am using Bore Tech products with great results. Non-toxic and they work quick, no soaking. I use Eliminator, C4 for the carbon and Their copper remover. Just started using SLP 2000, this stuff cuts carbon like crazy and its non-toxic also with a very pleasant smell.

Been a huge shooters choice fan for years--and Butches too, but use them less and less since staring to use Boretech. I can clean with shooters or Butches and then run boretech and get more out. Tried in reverse on an overly dirty barrel and tried a pass with sweets, wait a couple minutes and patch, nothing more. The Boretech Eliminator is not just non-toxic, it's the bees knees for easy cleaning. Still think some isso or JB is good for throat area every once in great while, but for my normal cleaning (every 100-250 rounds in most rifles) it simply works great.

Do some research on KG products and you will find that they put pretty much everything else to shame. SLIP 2000 is also suppose to be very good.

I use Butch's Bore Shine and think its great, usually even takes most, if not all the copper out also. If you need something specifically for copper, try Pro-Shot Copper Solvent IV. It is amazing stuff that actually lifts the copper out. I just run a bunch down the barrel and let the copper drain out with the solvent. Leaves my barrels completely void of any copper.

I have tried and abandoned everything (except the home brew) mentioned above except KG. For me the KG products work the best. I use KG-1 for carbon and KG-12 for copper. I don't shoot lead in my 1911s, so I don't need anything beyond those two for all of my firearms.

This is like asking Ford or Chevy, so opinions will vary.

Holland's Witches Brew works good for removing copper deposits ..............

I put some compound on a patch thats on a bore brush. Then I wipe it out.

Would a tool maker remove copper from steel with a liquid?

He would if it was imbedded in machining marks and firecracking.
KG1 by the quart. All you'll ever need if your not shooting rough barreled milsurps.
KG12 for the rough barrels.

Fwiw I made the reds up and it is one of the best carbon cleaners I ever used

I added some Montana Copper killer 50 BMG and am useing that right now.

Its some of the best i have used since the old Hoppies
