Beding?

I installed a shilen 28in #8 contour barrel on my Remington 700 short action. Do I need to bed the first few inches of the barrel into the stock? I am afraid that the barrel may put some stress on the action if it is fully floated.

I cant say you should or shouldnt, but that contour,weight) is very close to what is being hung off the new Savage target actions with no support under the barrel.

I shoot a couple of 1.350's @ 28 & 30 inches off of a BAT 3 lug and a SV and don't seem to have a problem not bedding any of the barrel....

Bed it under the barrel.
Shoot it.
Document it.
Relieve the bedding.
Document it & see if there are any variables.
