Bedding ?

I am on to pillar bedding my rifle and have a few questions. How do I get a nice clean line of where the bedding ends? Should I go 1 inch past the Savage action nut or just to the end of the nut? I have a mag system like the one in the photo and am wondering if I should just remove it and fill with clay of if I should install it and protect it with clay as the bedding sets up? Other than that, I think I am ready to rock. I have the end of the barrel taped, the lug taped and the tang taped.

Here is a page with a stock that I have used as a reference. It looks like a nice bedding job.

I would bed from the rear of the recoil lug and float the tang. I also would remove magazine and bed. Use a rotary tool (dremel or pencil grinder) and cut excess bedding from magazine cutout.
