bedding and free floating in synthetic stock

FN Mauser 98 & Butler Creek stock.
Do I start the bedding that will support the action
a) 1" in front of the lug
b) where the rifling starts at the end of the chamber which is another inch or so forward.

Understand that bedding will flow forward. I can create temporary dam.

Plan to go from a or b above to rear screw on tang. Need to eliminate any slop in barrel.
Your help would be appreciated.

Richard, I am not expert. Here is what I did on my Parker Hale. I bedded it 1"-1 1/2" forward of the recoil lug. With Custom barrel on the action in 6mm Rem, I shot 5/8" groups at 200 yds with a Max Heavy Varmint contour, 26" long, 12 twist, minimum spec chamber,Near zero freebore, bullets I made. Mauser actions are not supposed to shoot like this, ya never know, till you know.

I'll try it at 1 1/2 inches in front of the lug. . . . and if it shot like yours, I'd be very pleased. I think the extra bedding will help support the barrel better. This one is a 25-06 and has a SS Shilen barrel. FN Mauser 98 and Timney trigger. I think your stock is a higher quality then what I'm using. This Butler Creek came with the rifle. Some gunsmiths like them because they are a 99% drop in . . . but I would have used a better stock if I had built it. Thanks for your reply.
