Beautiful Wood for Stock Makers

I saw a Bastogne blank Cecil Freedi had two years ago. Asked $3200, and got it.
That's one of those "how bad do you want it" thangs!! It's only $$$$ and, you can't take it with you unless you change it into Travelers Checks. Plus, you're only going around one time (unless you're Shirley MacLane) so you better enjoy every cent of it. :D:D
Saw a Gal eyeballing a custom made Quilt. Asked how much? The owner didn't want to sell it so she told her $500.00!! The Gal left and came back the next day with her husband. Husband whipped out $500.00 CASH and walked out with the Quilt. Another "how bad do you want it" thangs.:cool: And my guess? Her man got treated VERY right by his wife. ;):)

Agreed with jpjulian about wood prices. Who is the dealer, got a URL?
Bc'Z is about done with mine. It is a wowser! stock.
And, I have one with vertical grain pattern and the RAD cheekpiece and butt stock installed. If I sold it here, I would want about $1800 + shipping/insurance.

I haven't heard Cecil Freddi's name in years...he used to come here to Oregon to my cousin's sawmill in Ophir and buy myrtlewood blanks. If he's still with us and you talk to him, tell him Ron Hanks and Steve Pollock say hello. Here are a couple that Ron didn't sell...

A man would be a fool to not whip out $500 to buy something his wife’s heart wants.

Only a fool would pay those prices.

Even exotic wood does not cost anywhere near that much...
It certainly does cost that and more.
Burmese rosewood and Siamese rosewood
are far more money.
That’s just two of many I could name.
But your opening sentence puts this lesson to an end.

My wife is a quilter. She has spent months working on single quilt. $500 is a drop in the bucket what a quilt can cost. The National Quilt Museum in Paducah has quilts on display that took years to piece together and quilt. Museum quality art worth MANY thousands of dollars.

Only a "quilt maker" really knows how much time/effort and love goes into making/building a quilt. Not too many folks can really know that cost. ;)
I got into/started making quilts maybe 20 + years ago and I know the cost of fabric and other material alone is a BIG deal. The rest is the love you put into it, known only by the builder/maker.

While I have only seen images of those Quilts in Paducah, we do make it to the KY State Fair for the Exhibits of the myriad Crafts presented for consideration.
I am mesmerized by the continually evolving talent, skills, creativity, and beauty of these Quilts over the decades!
Both of my Grandmothers (SW Tennessee, just north of Buford Pusser’s hometown) would have Quilting Bees at their home where perhaps up to a dozen Women would show up and do charity Quilts for newlyweds/expectant mothers/elderly folks in the Community.
They would alternate stations by spinning the rack suspended from the ceiling, and switch up according to each person’s specialty.
That was the early 60s through the mid 70s.
The Craft and Skills required still fascinate me today.

And for the folks that like building/piecing but NOT the quilting part, unfinished projects can be shipped to the Philippines and East where for a fee, some of the Morman women will do the "hand" quilting. No excuses for not finishing a quilt. ;)
