Bearing surface vs BTO

D2C23B5C-4416-42EA-A431-AC7F74475E20.jpeg I just received a new .22 cal bearing surface comparator from Accuracy One. So since I have plenty of time this part of the season I decided to sort out a partially used box of 500 90gr SMK’s.

As you can see the vast majority fell into the .001”. The other cups have less that 20 in them.

So then I decided to measure the new sub lots by base to ogive. I started with the .001 group first. I zeroed my sorting stand and after I measured about 20 I found an ES .002.

I then switched to the .006 group without rezeoring. Almost all of these were .005 larger than the .001 group.

So after checking some of the other groups I found that the bearing surface deviation very accurately coraleted with its base to ogive measurement.

After doing this test/sort I’m not sure there is an advantage of doing both sorts on the same lot of bullets since I was finding that direct relationship in measurements. No new groups needed to be made.

Has anyone else found this to be true? Would like to hear anyone’s opinions.
