Bearing Surface and Neck Tension

My 6 Creed is still shooting at 1800 rounds and I'm starting to run out of neck. I have about .200" of bullet touching the neck at the moment. This is a magazine fed bolt action and I'm jumping .025. How far can I go before I have to quit chasing? What is the acceptable bearing surface of a 105 Hybrid or a 105 BTHP in the neck?

Give the Hornady 105HPBT a try,, it has extreme bearing surface and they shoot real well G1 B.C. advertised at .530.

+1! These bullets shoot very well and you can't beat the price. Out to 600, my Dasher shoots them every bit as well as the Berger Hybrids.

Check out the - Twist Calculator - on Berger's website before you spend the time to work up a Berger 105 load.
I have problems shooting them in two different 1 in 8 barrels.

Try the Berger 105 Hybrid its very jump tolerant so you could find a seating depth accuracy node that will give you enough bearing surface in the neck so the bullet does not move when chambered out of the magazine. Usually 1 caliber of bullet in the case neck is considered minimum so whatever bearing surface is still in the case neck at that point would be it. You don't necessarily have to be up to or into the lands to get good accuracy. I have a .308 that the throat is so long that our .30 caliber 185 Juggernaut IS 1/4 INCH OUT OF THE CASE NECK TO GET TO THE LANDS. The seating depth sweet spot I found for that rifle is about .059 off the lands. BUT it all depends on what your rifle likes. I've always found the 105 Hornady to like jumping A LOT. Current load with new barrel, .060 jump.

I start out with less bearing surface than that in the neck in a .308. Your fine until that barrel is gone

Bearing surface of a 6 mm 105 VLD IS .326. with THE 6 mm 105 hybrid is .342

If I understand you correctly, at "touching", the bullet shank is 1/4" (0.250") out of the case neck. If the optimal seating depth is at .059" off the lands, the bullet shank will still be ~0.191" out of the case neck. How do you accomplish this? I can imagine how a specific application of duct tape might work, but am curious as to what method you're using to keep the powder in the case when the rounds are chambered .
