bbl contour/weight for Leonard stock ??

I have one of the Terry Leonard wood/carbon laminated short range bench rest stocks with a Farley action glued in,,it had a Spencer bbl that would make the 10.5 pound class when I got it but was wore out,,I rebarreled with a 23" HV and it is a little nose heavy and with a 40x LCS scope weighs 12.9 pounds,,
some of yall that have had multiple bbls on one of the Leonard stocks have an opinion on which contour bbl or how much the bbl should weigh using the Leonard stock for it to track the best and not cause any vertical on target,,
I just assumed heavier was always better when it came to benchrest rifle barrels but now I am not so sure I may be using to heavy a bbl,,
I see Brunos has a LV ,MV and HV and a Standard Target,,then the Rem Varmint falls in there pretty close,,

shooting UBR score and shot strings are usually about 15 rounds in 10 minutes or less,,

which contour bbl would you use for best tracking ,balance and accuracy compromise in the Leonard stock??

The butt will have a hole you can add weight to if you feel it's needed
To make 10.5 LV weight with the LCS scope in a Leonard stock
5.5 lbs LV barrel at 21.5" is usually good

You can counter sink a whole in the butt plate in line with the hole in the stock then have your smith take a 4.5" piece of old barrel stubb with a 5/16 hole drilled and tapped for a butt weight

Same gun only with a 21" LV. 4 lb. 12 oz. barrel 36 power Valdada scope and remove the weight it makes 10.5 ........ jim

I had the bbl off and weighed it without the bbl with the scope and the hole in the stock filled with #7.5 lead shot and it weighs right at 5.5 lbs,,I plan to try a 13.5 twist Bartlien LV at 21 inches and see for myself how different it tracks and if I like it better at 10.5 or 13..

I can see in the IBS books that a 10.5 pound 6PPC can be a very accurate rifle,,

The 13.5 is a little easier to shoot, it kind of makes up for some of your mistakes. Do they even count a light gun in score in UBR? or are they lumped together with the heavies?........ jim

I shoot Custom Class which is a custom action under 13.5 lbs,,Unlimited is anything over 13.5 lbs,,Modified is a Custom Class rifle using a factory action,and Factory Class is a Factory rifle under 13.5 lbs,,and you can shoot a rifle under 13.5 in UL but anything over 13.5 has to be shot in UL,

that is the 4 UBR classes,,

I wont be changing classes by lightening the rifle,,I am just wanting to see if taking weight off the front of the rifle will let it track better and maybe reduce vertical fliers,,

Add weight to the butt. I'd go for 13 pounds 7 ounces.

there may be,,and I been lookin at tungsten round bar stock on ebay that is 1.7 times heavier than lead,,

Melt the lead and make a weight,all the space between the bb's you will gain 1/3 in length. There is no room on a Leonard stock for an other hole. Balance should be around 1 1/2 to 2" in front of the action..... jim

Not sure on the weight, or cost, but look into Mallory Heavy Metal.

We used it to balance crank shafts on drag racing engines, pretty heavy stuff......
