Bat vs Lawton br action.

I don't have my 7500 from Lawton yet but I for sure wouldn't part with either my 3 lug or the SV BAT.
I just hope that the Lawton will be as excellent as the BATS have proven to be.......

BAT Actions 110% all the way

I would defintely consider that u check for squareness and runout on the Lawthon actions. There quality control is not so good. I've got other gunsmiths telling me that Lawthon has sent wrong actions after actions to them and sent 2 other back for the lack of quality. But mistakes do happen.. I'd just go with the time proven BAT.

tbeasley, I was sent an email saying basically the same thing you just did. I wanted to see what others had to say before I went any further. It is a shame that someone went to all the trouble to get into the business of making actions, then letting the business just fall all to hell for things that are easily corrected ,if they cared to). I really do/did want a "Bat" action, but with the options I want it comes up to about $1400.00 or so without a trigger. I don't belittle anyone making a living but that to me is an excessive amount of money to spend on something that offers convenience in it's design over a properly set up Remington action that is probably just as accurate but maybe not as nice looking or with the resale value. Not that anyone would ever give you what you paid for it in the first place. It is no longer surprising to me that so many individuals are jumping into the action building business, the return on investment is unbelievable!! When that sort of situation is present in the business world it's just a matter of time before we will start seeing clones from China and maybe even plastic wrapped actions on a rack in Walmart, LOL.
If one comes my way,Bat) at a decent price I'll probably get it but barring that, unlikely, because they are hot right now) I'm just going to start looking elsewhere, as for the lawton action it is totally out of the running with me. To buy one and then have to send it out to a top gunsmith to be setup/checked out is totally unacceptable to me for going in the custom action direction in the first place.
Thanks to all.

Since you seem to know, just what is the cost to build something comparable to a BAT action?

"Cry Once and Buy The Best"
I've had 5 Bat actions along with Nesika and Stiller.
I keep coming back to the Bat.

So here is another Lawton story, my relative received his action about a month later than it was promised, not a big deal, it went directly to his gunsmith. Come to find out the feed ramp was not cut into the action, so rather than wait some more he had the smith just cut one in for him. Once the rifle was finished he mounts the scope, correctly) and the bolt handle hits the scope so the bolt can not be cycled. Just great, so he now has to send the whole rifle back. They admitted that handle was mounted a little off. They stood behind it no questions but man where is the quality control. One Bat please.

I have 2 7500 Lawtons, Quality is very good, but as with any custom maker of anything, they seem to loose their calender when its delivery time. I have another due this July, maybe delivery time has improved, but I'm not holding my breath. Larry

If you think a properly set up Remington is just as accurate, then why not buy one? Why complain about the free market factors? Nobody is forcing you to buy anything, friend.

And to suggest that the action building business is easy money is ridiculous. Do you know how much the tooling is? Add in a shop, CNC programming and employees, overhead, and you'd have to sell a ton of actions -- probably literally -- just to break even. Nobody's getting rich making/selling actions except the companies which have been in the biz for decades, i.e. none of the custom makers.

If you want alternatives, try a Barnard or a Stolle. It won't be the action's fault if such a rifle basis isn't capable of winning... it'll be you.

I have two Lawton actions and found them to be flawless. They are very popular at our range with some very well known gunsmiths. having said that, I love my BAT.

Before I orderded an actiion I talked with a number of gunsmiths and shooters I had confidence in. The one action that received no bad comments was the BAT. I ordered one and now I see why.
