BAT Vampire action

Im excited about this one :)
Long action repeater, std or mag bolt. Anodized aluminum action body with hardened steel insert for the lug seats and threads. Nitrided bolt body. Integral lug and 20 moa pic rail. CFE9 mag box inlet. Fits Remington pattern stocks, you just need to square up the inlet. This action shape should be very stable in the bedding. 25oz. on the scale. (yes Im begging for a BR version)
I have checked it for straightness and lug contact. Its very good. Getting an insert installed that straight is impressive to me.

How does straightness and lug contact compare with the many Kelblys you have worked with over the years? It seems the action construction is very similar between the two.

Im impressed with how straight they got this insert. :) I am begging for a BR version. You can ask too ;)

Trigger hangers do limit the magazine box to cfe12 vs CFE9 and dont really do anything for a hunting action. Bat has made me HR actions with trigger hangers but I went away from it as it was no benefit. In a BR version a trigger hanger would be expected no doubt.

Good hell I’m just going to have to call and order me one of these Vampires. It’s been killing me ever since Alex posted this. Now what to build out of it?

I’d be surprised if the machined the insert first instead of inserting and then machining. A cryo bath for the insert and a mild press, then allow it to come to temp and machine it. That’s how I’d do it.

I have been specifying cryo'd cromoly on every action I order for a couple years now. Theres a couple reasons for that. The insert is cryo'd cm thats a few points harder as well. Its very precise. The way the barrel torques up is different. Its just tight, hardly any rotation after hand tight.

Curious why you went with a Lilja barrel?

The couple Lilja barrels I owned and others friends and family have owned were very finicky and tough to find accurate loads. Eventually all shot well, but took a ton of work. Lilja has been at the bottom of my list for a long time now just because other barrels seem to find multiple accurate loads very quickly and tune better.
