bat sv bedding

I had a 6br built into a lowrider stock and the gunsmith who built it did not install a recoil lug . Recently I discovered a small crack in the bedding at the tang and accuracy seems to be gone. Question is should a recoil lug be installed in this action or is the tang used? Would a small crack affect accuracy?

jaybray: My gunsmith bedded a Kelbly fiberglass stock for my Bat SV last spring & I asked him about there being no recoil lug. He said the machined recess on the underside of the receiver acts as a recoil lug, and when he bedded it, there is now solid contact at that location, in addition to the rear of the tang.

Is your receiver making contact with the bedding at that underside recess?

There is a notch on the underside of the action that works with the tang. For most of the short cartridges the SV is used for the tang and notch are sufficient to handle recoil.

Not sure if your action is a glue-in or pillar-bedded, but either of them should have been sufficient to anchor the action. If the action has caused a crack in the stock it almost certainly is enough of a problem to affect accuracy.

There would be no problem to use a recoil lug, but the current barrel will have to be rechambered to use one. My personal solution would be a proper pillar-bedding which will handle anything the little action can give it.

Thanks for the quick replies, my action does not have a notch in the bottom it is just round. This action was only glass bedded , is that the same as a glue in? The crack is in the glass bedding just beside the tang. Maybe it was bedded wrong?

Bruce @ BAT told me one time, not to use a lug with any action of his that has the cut out on the bottom..

I looked at some pics online of the sv and I do see the notch. Mine does not have the notch, it is round at the bottom. So the best way to re-bed it would be to pillar bed it?

IF there is not a cut out on the bottom of the action, pillar bed it, and use a recoil lug...
Bedding is not the same as a glue in.......

Thanks for clearing this up for me.
