Bat model B

I recently purchased a used heavy Benchrest gun chambered in 6 Dasher. It unfortunately does not have a salon extractor but rather a claw. When trying to determine headspace an bullet touch depth I found that the extractor is pushing the case against the opposite side of the bolt face. I can’t get a true feeling on the case. Any easy fixes.

Assuming it has a plunger ejector, you can usually get an accurate seating depth by removing the ejector and of course, the firing pin assembly. I've never noticed any effect from the extractor. Just slip the case rim under the extractor and insert and close the bolt. If the extractor is pushing so hard on the side of the case as to affect the feel, you could remove it too. If your BAT B has the "universal bolt face that is designed to work with both PPC and BR cases, the claw of the extractor can be shortened a little for the BR cases to get it to snap over the case rim easily. This means that a new extractor would be needed to use the action with PPC cases.

Youll just have to get a feel for it. You can do this just fine with everything installed once you get the feel for the case pushing the ejector and touching the boltface and how it feels when jammed or jumping. Use lots of neck tension to get a better feel

On the sliding plate extractors you can remove them in a ziploc bag of course, then just tap the dummy round out with a cleaning rod. I cut off an old brush and round it off on a grinder for a tapper

I have shot this gun in a shoot off for score late last season at Williamsport. Was shooting VT 103 and the same load of H4885 that I normally would shoot. The gun tracks extremely well and after the last sighter shot I never looked through the scope. It shot a 100 with a 4” group. Pushed it back, loaded and pulled the trigger.

Just hook the case on first, then feed it into the chamber. That's how I do it regardless of the type extractors. That way if you're starting way long you can pull it out and seat it deeper without having to stick a bullet.

Yes a small round file or die grinder, its not a super critical part, just take a little off at a time and try to keep the radius the same. The worst case is you go too far,, Bat will sell you another and I bet they would even machine it for you if you explained what your trying to do.
@tom yours have already been worked over so they are not putting side pressure on the case. You will always feel a slight hitch when the handle hits the cam otherwise, similar to the feeling you get if the bullet is dragging in the freebore due to runout.

Thanks for your help Alex and Tom. It was touching below the claw and rubbing the side of the rim. Polished that area off and is now much better. Still has a very slight rub, but I was able to find the bullet touch point. Have a wonderful New Years.
