BAT M - 6XC

I'll probably call BAT on this but figured I'd get all of your thoughts as well.

I have a dual port RBLPRE BAT M .308 bolt face that I just put a 6XC barrel on. I have up to this point exclusively shot 6.5x284 barrels on this rig. It would eject those cases quite well, but since I've had this barrel I've noticed that it's not ejecting the 6XC case consistently and sometimes not at all.

It really depends sometimes on how fast or slow I run the bolt. It always extracts the 6XC, sometimes it lays it there, sometimes it tries to eject but slips off the case resulting in flipping the case the whole way around, sometimes it actually ejects but just falls out of the eject port on the right. It does not consistently throw the case out like it always did on the 6.5 cases.

My guess it b/c the 6.5x284's rim is .4728" and the 6XC is .468", just a tad smaller and I may need a mod. Either spring or ejector. Problem is, it's a switch barrel and I run both calibers, and I don't want to fix one thing and break another. It's not a major problem, other than I can not get the most out of my dual port if it doesn't get rid of the spent cartridge. Anyone else experience this and what's the fix? Like I said, I'm going to call BAT here but figured I'd open it up for discussion. Oh yeah I'm running the latest batch of Norma 6XC brass from Tubb

May be the 6XC rim is a bit thinner / thicker than the 6.5x284 stuff too. Which brand of the latter are you using?

From your description it certainly sounds like a dimensional issue somewhere. Please post what the folks at BAT have to say....

6.5x284 is Lapua, older gold box stuff. (I have a stash) I haven't physically mic'd it to see the true dimensional differences, but I know they are there based off diagrams. I'll be doing that tonight since it's annoying me at the moment. Unfortunately the call to BAT will have to wait until Monday since phone hrs. are only Monday-Thursday.

Good news is the 6XC is a shooter! Just can't run my as strings fast if it doesn't get rid of the case.

I may have found my own answer. Looks like if it's a mod to the spring or slide plate, I can easily acquire that through BAT for $31.

$36 for the Extractor, might even need the thicker one if it's a dimension problem

I'll talk with them on Monday and see what they say.

I bought An "M" 1.47 multi flat from Brunos. I asked him if would eject BR/Dasher sized brass, since I had heard some where that you needed a special setup. He guaranteed that it would eject them. It would not eject a single one. Had to send it in and have BAT build me a new one. Something with the ejector and ejection port. I still have the tag from BAT "REMake exchange need BR, lester sold 308" . Took an additional 6 months!!!

Measure twice....cut once!!!!

It May be that the the XC case is longer than the BR and you won't have any trouble. Simply talk to the guys at BAT!!

The "special" set-up" is they need a Sako extractor and the ejection port needs to have a bevel on the top, angling up and away from the top outside edge.

You knew about it. I found out about it...the hard way. Now, Petey knows about it. But, does Mr. Bruno know?

Measured some cases I have; Norma 6XC (first run) & years-old cardboard-boxed Lapua 6.5x284. Rim dia's same @ 0.4705" - 0.4710". Rim thickness differs by 0.002" (Lapua's 0.052") so that might make a slight difference as might the 6XC's 0.4030" dia. at the base of the exteactor groove where the 6.5's 0.4050".

In any event let us know what the folks at BAT tell you once you've had a chance to discuss your experience with them.

Talked with Darryl at BAT, alf pretty much hit the nail on the head. Since mine is a sliding plate extractor, it will not work for that shorter case. The only way they could guarantee it would work would be with a sako extractor and a eject out the left load port BC it's bigger. He didn't really recommend modifying the right ejection port or the slide area on the right and using a right sako extractor.

To me it's really not worth it unless I can find a good deal from someone on here with a RBLE sako .308 bolt for an M. DeFinitely sounds like a special build from BAT if you want to run an M dual port with those shorter rounds like 4xforfun had to do. Makes sense since that action is built for those bigger rounds. Anyhow, now we all know!
