Does a 3 lug Bat have more potential for accuracy than a 2 lug?
Would it be prone to less accuracy?
Thanks

Sailhertoo,
I would reply at frst that a 3 points bearing in a circle is better in stability than a 2 points one..
A 2 lugs system is 90° opening, when a 3 Lugs is 60° This can be taken into account in question of bolt lift, but I do not tink it is much relevant as there are means to ease recocking on a shorter rotation.
The most important point of comparison is perhaps to consider the bolting angle, which is the total angle formed by the lugs at bolt body diameter level. On a popular 2 lugs design, it is approximately 140° (2 x 70°), when, on a well designed 3 Lugs system, it can be very close to the 'ideal' 180° (On a 3 lugs model I know quite well, this bolting angle is 165°
Moreover, a 2 lugs design has the lugs bearing against two fully different sections : the ring at top, and the section in front of the magazine well at bottom. Even if a single shot, the sections bearing the lugs are uneven because often of the large loading port coming up to the rear of the top lug..
On a 3 lugs, the bearing is more evenly repartited, each lug being ‘shouldered’ by a long strip of receiver metal, even moreso if the loading port is restricted to its minimal.
When bolted, the 2 lugs are symetric in the vertical plane only, byt the receiver is not.
A 3 lugs design alow more symetry even more if the loading port is narrow.
I think it is the case for the BAT as well?
Then, yes, on those aspects only, a 3 lugs design is more potentially accurate than a 2 lugs one…
BUT…it is not all what makes an action potentially more accurate than an other….
FWIW

I was reading that the Bat 3 lug had some kind of roller cam or something to speed lock up and make it smoother. If this is the case, would the extra parts not complacate things and give rise to error?
I've never seen one is why I ask and I need to buy a good action soon.
