Bat action what model

I have a 3 lug dual port, I love it, it's my first custom but if I had it to do all over again I would go with a SV or a B.

I like the SV for the 6br type of cartridges, 3L for the mediums, and the M's for bigger ones...
if they are huge, then the L model would get the vote...

I like the 1.55 round model B's and the D.S. The only thing with the big model B's is you have no trigger hangers to adjust with out adding that option.

Got my first Bat, an SV, right bolt, left port, right eject 2 years ago. So happy with it, have another in the pipeline on it's way to my gunsmith now. This one is a right bolt, left port.

I have numerous Remington 700's and none are even close to being as smooth as my Bat. Bolt feels like it's on roller bearings. No disruption between the rifle & the front bag when opening the bolt. Trigger hanger makes removal of the Jewell a snap, side bolt release is the best.

The B will take you anywhere you want to go and with the 1.350 round action. It and a Dasher work well with a HV @30" and a brake. Come to think of it i think i'll build an other....... jim

if this is your first custom action you will not know your style of shooting. as Dave berg you may have trouble loading [ or you may not]

if you dont know how your loading habits will evolve stay with a large port on the left side and no ejection port. later on you can get something you have tried out and like.

there are many ways to load the rifle. one way has you picking your ammo up with your thumb and forefinger from a port level loading block. this will cause you to throw the cartridge into the chamber nose first. it is a fast loading technique. but if there is an ejection port on the opposite side the cartridge will go out the other side.

other loading habits may also cause complications you dont anticipate that you will need to adapt to.

My current competition rig has a Bat B Multiflat RBLPRE, Melonited, Integral Lug and Rail, DS cocking parts. I carry extra parts for my travels. I shoot the Dasher and can switch barrel to the 7mm 284 Shehane with the elongated ejection port. Each of these extras are well worth the price.
This works very well. It is very smooth. It handles very high pressures and makes weight easily.
Just tell Bruce or Darrel what you want to do with it and they will hook you up.

How do you like the melonite? How does it compare to a bare action?
It makes everything much smoother. I won't do another without it. Very good investment at 3 times the cost.

Lee, [br]
I have a BAT that has never shot, but that is largely because Manners has had it since August and no delivery date in sight. :( [br]
Given a chance, I'm sure it will do what is expected. No, I've never heard of a bum BAT. ;)
