Bat 3L Fatboy

My Bat 3L "Fatboy" (1.75" OD) was just delivered! It has the new "Post Falls ID" address on it.
The black Melonite finish is really slick. Don't have to tilt the action much and the bolt slides right in. Slickest of any action I have.
The precursors to the Fatboy were first a Model SV and then a Model S. One of the things I really like about those two is that I can switch barrels between them and they turn into perfect timing, and headspace is so close I can't measure the difference.
Didn't mention the timing thing when I ordered my 3L, like I did when I ordered my S.
When I turned some of my existing barrels onto the 3L, they were about 35-40 degrees shy of perfect timing. So an Octogon barrel (for instance) is a little less than a ""flat" out of time.
Headspace however was as close to perfect as I can measure.
Out of curiosity, gave Daryle a shout about the timing issue, and he mentioned that usually if they were "out of time" 180 degrees were involved. In any case timing of the threaded helix is not something they guarantee. And of course it was not something I mentioned when I ordered it.
Could be something with it being a 3 lug bolt, I suppose.
Perhaps Bat geared up for greater production in their new location, this could be part of the "shake out" of the new facility.
In any case, if you are ordering a new Bat action and are interested in the timing of the barrels you might switch from one Bat action to another, be sure to discuss this issue with them before ordering.
If you have a number of barrels you could send them one to insure the helix is timed close to your existing.
Like I said the action is a real beaut, even though it ain't gona' be in any swimsuit competition.
Best regards to the Post Falls gang, for a superb piece of art.

Wow, ClassCat, that is really a fat one!
Mine has a XP cutout and a flat along the bottom, so I can bed it into a stock.
A rail gun would be awfully cool, but is a bit above my pay grade.
Good shooting!

That outstanding !! - I like how these guys have some "lee-way" to provide custom dimensions for the customer.
- Also more than 1 bolt for the same action for us "barrel-swappers". - I just received a 1.47" model "M" from the Post Falls location. - They got it to me in 4 1/2 months from the day I ordered which is pretty darn good for a custom action built to spec' -

Neat Pic! I wondering if any of the fellows with these "fatboy" actions have favorite barrel contours or diameters? Barrel length? Short-fat cylinders is what I'm guessing, but I would like to hear a variety of experience on this. My 1.25" diameter barrel looks a bit like a pencil centered in a round pencil sharpener.
Guessing the barrel harmonics of even a "regular" barrel contour will be improved. Opinions would be greatly appreciated, as I would like some barrel guidance regarding my "fatboy".
Some pics of mine with a 1.25" octagon barrel attached.

On my BAT model "L" 2.00 round I'm running 1.700 for 9" then straight taper to 1.300 @ 34" & 36" - These are bigger caliber cartridges.
Running a 1.75 Octagon BAT "L" using a 1.500 for 7" then straight taper to 1.300 in 338 Lapua Imp & 30-378 Wby @ 34"
Running a 1.65 Octagon BAT "L" using a 1.500 for 7" then straight taper to 1.225 in 28 Nosler @ 34"
They all seem to shoot pretty darn good.
I've heard that the "tuning window" on these big stiff barrels is "narrower" in comparison to say a No. 17 HV contour. But once the accuracy node is found the fat ones drive tacks !!

Many thanks for the help on barrels and comments on railgun configurations.
Considering all this, and since I put together my own laminated stocks, I taken note of Dusty's unconventional
ejection port location on his rail gun, and given David Tubb's inclination to cant a rifle when shooting, I decided to make me an "uber stock" for my Bat 3L Fatboy. This canting of the action, will allow all my other Bat action barrels to fit the 3L without having to adjust my level bubbles that are on almost all my barrels. A level bubble on the end of a barrel is much better for me (I'm now far-sighted in my seniority) than one close up on a scope. The stock will have to have an unusual palm-swell and cheek-piece, but my hope is that this will help my shooting by having that 35 degree V with my hand on the trigger and cheek weld balancing one another out for reduced shot-to-shot variation. If this works out all my 3L barrels will easily be used on my S & SV, if I'm so inclined; and visa versa.
Attached are a few pics I took with the action, barrel, bubble, and scope oriented as they will be in my "Uber Gun". Also included a shot of the underneath of the action showing the XP cut and action screw holes. Note the rods propping the action into position: the black one is a carbon-fiber rod, the silver one is a hollow square stainless tube. I embed these in my DIY stocks for rigidity.
Thanks again for the helpful replies.
