barrels

In the early part of my career, barrel choices were limited in comparison to today. Readily available and commonly seen were Shilen, Douglas, Hart, and Atkinson. There were others, of course, but these were the most common. Shilen and Hart were the primary sources for BR barrels. Occasionally, you would see Atkinson and Douglas.
I used primarily Shilen barrels, when a chromoly barrel was called for, Hart or Shilen select barrels for BR rifles. logistically, they were easy. Delivery was prompt and pricing was good. I didn't use as many Douglas, but when I did, they worked out every bit as well as the others.
The US state department decided to interfere with barrel exports to hunters and target shooters in Canada, so things aren't the same now. The barrel landscape has changed. Nonetheless, Douglas is a company which still makes a quality barrel, and they stand behind their product.
There are more barrel manufacturers than ever before and the choices more varied. I'm not sure that supply is any better though. WH

i would like to have them put a 7mm prc on my remington 700 300 magnum rifle i have now in the reminton magnum contour.i was told that i would then have a much better barrel then a factory one.

I had them rebarrel 2 rifles a couple years ago, including blueing and cerakote. I was very happy with the entire process.

Absolutely will be better than the factory barrel. Bad barrel makers don't stick around as long as Douglas has. They can copy contours as well.

You and I are probably the only two here that have used Atkinson barrels.

Sorry, but will chime in - have a few 338 Atkinsons from his involvement with the birth of the 338 Lapua (aka 338/416 Sniper) from the Haskins/Research Armament Prototype days. WTA

I still have one Atkinson barrel on a prone rifle. It's a very good barrel. I always felt that Hart barrels were a little more consistent at the time, but that may have just been my feeling. WH

That rifle has a douglas barrel...it shoots pretty good. The top row of targets tells the story. Their service is exceptional too.
any one use a douglas barrel or thier services.
