Barrel Turning

I am beginning the process of building my Anschutz 2013 .22 LR into a silhouette rifle. Is it possible to turn down the existing barrel so it can be used in silhouette matches? If so, does anyone have a recommendation as to who can do this? Thanks Randy

The primary goal is to have the rifle meet weight and other requirements to qualify as a Hunter Class rifle, and a secondary goal is to use the rifle for informal shooting.

When you turn the OD the ID of the bore is going to grow. Any place you leave a shoulder will not grow and the bore will feel tight there when slugging the bore. If you taper the bbl smaller at the muzzle you will lose the choke.

I would recommend getting a new bbl blank that comes from the maker already turned to the profile you need.

Not exactly. I have done it without any change in the bore dimensions. The steel has to be good quality and the turning must be slow. But its not something that you can bet on. You can try it but the end result may not be what you want. A fresh barrel may be the best option.
