Barrel tuning/ harmonic dampeners

Old question - new poster:

I read alot about muzzle breaks and barrel ad-ons. I was wondering if by simply putting two barrel mounts - ring clamp style - and then adding a solid metal piece from mount to mount - under the barrel - wouldnt that sort of give the same affect as one of those barrel things like M-Bar and the like?

Any thoughts. I also assume it would be best placed near the muzzle end.????????

Something like that could work but in order to do enough to really help out there it is gonna have to descent amount of weight to it.

Need to know barrel specs and caliber to help out any more then that.

The reason i ask in part - is like I saw the Mo Bar thing - it doesnt look like it adds much - s slim metal bar under neath.

I have a standard weight rem - 700 - 223 - 24"long. I thought the idead wasnt weight - but rigidness?????
