Barrel treatments.

I have heard you guys mentioning barrel treatments to give longer life to barrels and slow down/stop throat erosion.
Has anyone had a barrel long enough to prove or disprove the allegations of the people who make the statements about this being done to new barrels?

I know nothing about these processes, so please tell me what you know.

If you will do a search you will find a thread about the Military Armorer's experience with melonite. I would take his word because of extensive testing and use.
