Barrel taper for F class

What is the point of so many different tapers? It seems most f open rifles are 1.25 straight barrels, 30+ inches. But then you have the various contours, the HV tapers, the straight tapers.. Are the straight tapers meant to reduce weight out at the end of the barrel?
 
Rifle weight can be 22 pounds. Easier to get there with 1-1/4" straight barrels. Some pay to have barrels tapered and then pay to have lead weight added.
