barrel swap

got a 700 long action in 300 winchester magnum.found a 40x barrel in a magnum.what has to be done to pull origenal barrel and put the 40 x barrel on said action.also the cost.

Install barrel. Pray. Check headspace. If within go, no-go range you are golden.

Since both are a belted magnum, that does simplify the process a little.

You will need an action wrench as well as a good barrel vice.

If you send it to a gunsmith, you have shipping cost, which is no small thing now days. Plus, depending on the circumstances, it might have to go from FFL to FFL.. it would be nice if you knew a gunsmith local.

I have no idea what a gunsmith charges for this. If you know how, it is a simple procedure, but I can see how it can be intimidating to someone ignorant of the process.
