Barrel swap on a Mexican Mauser?

So here’s my question, I stumbled upon a really nice 1936 Mexican Mauser. The issue I ran into was buying shit before looking closely. My two problems. The stock is really nice, I love it other than the fact that I’m right handed. So it’s a left handed stock on a right handed bolt. Second problem is it’s chambered in 450 marlin and my shoulders aren’t in the best of shape. Now normally I would never consider such sacrilege, but I’ve got a really slick blued 22-250 bull barrel for a small ring Mauser. Also have a br stock for a 98 Mauser. Should I swap em? Wild how he bolt face be alright?

If you want to send it I will give it to my buddy Troy and let him tackle your barrel job. He has a new Bridgeport Mill now. So we should be able to do it.

This will help you with determining what will fit with what.

As far as swapping stocks, aside from the different diameters between large ring & small ring, the action screws spacing may be different.

There is little to do about the left hand stock for your right hand action other than replace it. Yes it is a nice looking stock but it's not what you need unless you switch your shooting shoulder.;)

I added the dimension drawing of the .450 Marlin cartridge so that the .532" rim is obvious. Without some clever tricks, your action is set up for the magnum diameter bolt face and rails.

Your 22-250 bull barrel isn't really going to work without significant action work which will essentially change the original action forever.

One thought is to try something like a 6.5 on a shortened case such as the 6.5 PRC or the 6.5 SAUM. You can adjust the load and bullet weight to soften the recoil if you like. Just a quick thought.

Enjoy the process.

:)

As to the stock...assuming there is no cast to the existing dimensions and you are willing to forego the cheekpiece, I have removed cheekpieces and blended the results into the lines of the rest of the stock without a sign of the original. It takes planning and going painfully slow as you get closer to the final dimensions, but it can be done.

Sell it . Too many differences. Bolt face , probably tenon depth , bolt face to barrel dimensions, and of course headspace.
I have many spare mexican bolts ( std bolt face ) but you’re back throwing money at it . Adding a low scope bolt handle to the new bolt etc.
