Barrel storage

Since I switch barrels, I have few.
Going in PVC pipe capped one end , screw off on the other. Not in my safe. Wiped down with oil. Never had a problem.

Same as complete firearm - Birchwood Casey Barricade on all metal surfaces -except trigger assembly. I would not put in a capped PVC pipe as it supposedly outgasses water vapor and I don't want to test the theory out.

I've had a couple aftermarket barrels leaning in the corner for a year or more, in the original cardboard shipping tube/box & wrapping/shipping material from the makers and no damage/issues when I unpacked them at that time. I did inspect them upon receipt and wrapped them back up in the same materials as shipped. I put the pulled barrels back into the same container, and back in the corner for a nap. I did wipe all fingerprints, etc., off before re-packing.

As I said I never had a problem. Did some research so I wouldn’t be ‘testing a theory’
It gives off vapors when new. As it gets older, not much. I could find nothing about water vapors except when used for drinking water under some circumstances.
I’ll stick with what has worked for me.

I just scatter them around the shop. Some are under the bench in one room, some are under the bench in the other room. Some are in the vault, some are lying on the Milling machine stand. I generally have two or three on top of the tool box, and some stood up in the corner. I've had barrels which have been missing for so long, I have trouble remembering what they are for. Occasionally, I will store a barrel and stock together, for when I want to change the configuration of a particular rifle. This is not normal though. I was digging through the stack, under my reloading bench , looking for a Hart 30 cal I knew was there. I found three new 6.5mm blanks I had forgotten I had. WH
