Barrel Steel....? for Frank Green

Frank,
Where do you barrel makers buy your steel? Do most of the top barrel makers use the same vendor?

What type of QC is done on the blanks when it arrives at your shop?

Do you specify the particular ratios of compounds to the steel producer for your barrels?

How do you bore the initial hole in the barrel?

What do you think of cyro treatments, does it do anything?

Is there any difference in the chemical composition of the steel you and the other custom barrel makers use than say Remington or Savage?

A buddy of mine is a long time PPC shooter, and purchased a 6mm barrel from you recently. He has had several 6mm barrels from every manufacturer out there. This past Wednesday I was shooting with him and he told me that your barrel was the best he has ever owned. In fact now he only screws it on for big matches.

Chuck, I'm not going to get into answering your questions on the steel. Please respect my position on this. Even though some barrel makers buy there steel from the same manufacturer they might have it made to a different spec. that they like or want to see. I consider that information proprietary to each company. All of your other questions I can write a small book on it. Give me a call and would be happy to discuss it with you.
