barrel set back

I took my rem. 700 action Hart barreled br gun to a smith to have the rifling checked. The rifle had roughly 2000 rounds down the tube and accuracy has tapered off and I have had to move the bullet out just under .030 to still engage the rifling. This helped some but accuracy isn't what it was. Do you think this will bring back the accuracy even for a 1000 shots or so--Gary

Asked my well known BR smith that several years ago and he said yes, as long as there is minimal bore firecracking the barrel can be set back, and this usually applies to barrels with less than 1500 rounds thru it. Further he said I could expect about another 800 rounds of good accuracy after the set back. My 6ppc was re=chambered at 1800 rounds and now has 1100 rounds after; is shooting real good.

My smith re-chambered my 6BRX after 2200 rounds with MV typically 3000fps.

Shot it in the Sacramento 600 and 1000 nationals in April with it and 500 shots more did VERY well in last Sunday's club match.
