Barrel/powder preference?

I have two Krieger barrels in 223 on AR's- one is a 26" Varmatch, and the other is an HBar 20 for service rifle. The Varmatch (1/9) just doesn't seem to like Varget with any bullet, and does much better with H335 or AA2520, for any given bullet, with the primers and brass being held constant. Group size goes from around a consistent 0.5 to over an inch (100 yds, five shots) with Varget. Bullets have been Sierra 69MK.

On the other hand, the service rifle (1/7.7) likes Varget much better, and won't even eject rounds loaded with AA2520 (ones that work fine and are very accurate in my varmint gun).

Is this behavior common? I've heard a lot about how great Varget is in 223, but no matter what I've tried, it seems to like the ball powders better in the varmint rifle. Is there something I'm missing?

As far as looking for a formula your just not gonna find anything solid. Faster twist may like a slower powder but it just impossible to tell till you actually test it and find out.

Each barrel is different. What works is what works and it's your job to find out what that is. That's what reloading is all about.
