barrel melting

I just heard on Fox news that you cant put a suppressor on an AR15 because the barrel will melt. Be careful out there. These people in the news business need to stick with what they know.

I don't ever remember have to bring my barrel home in a bucket and I can tell you I shot so many that I had hang fires with my M 14 full auto in the Army.

On any network, if they actually broadcast what they knew
to be a fact, their airtime would be very short.
A good investigative reporter doesn't acquire that title by making up lies/called fake news in this PC world, he gathers and reports the TRUTH. The news that we hear has got to be like wartime propaganda, it leaves you not knowing what to believe. LDS

I don't shoot automatic guns
But I have heard them talking about melt down . That's where they get too hot to function . A suppressor would add heat I would think Larry

While growing up we were all taught the myth that reporters do their background research before airing their report and that all news reports are completely unbiased. Who taught us that, ... the media reporters of course!
Now fast forward to today and you can very plainly see that your favorite news channel is very bias toward whoever they like. Add to that, that now it is so important,(to the media) to be first to release something even when it's not true that they make very little if any effort to research and see if it's true.

So the basic rule still stands, take in as much information as possible and then sift through it yourself and come up with your own conclusion. Don't listen to some 30 second sound bite and decide that's right.

Another video. The suppressor melted.

700 round burst through an M249 SAW. The suppressor used in this video was a Silencerco SWR branded can. We fired 700 rounds in one continuous burst through a full-auto M249 saw. The can ended up breaking around the 350-400 round mark.

Looks like Fox News could of been correct .
But when they said the modifications done was where he could shoot a larger caliber
I don't think is correct. Larry

Once law enforcement has completed their investigation, we'll know more about the facts. Until then, it's pure speculation.

In all three videos the barrel is not melting. The plastic hand guard is burning in the first two and the third that is the silencer not the barrel.
Barrels have been known to turn red hot, the german MG42 could turn a barrel red hot and could distort or rupture if taken too far. That is why they came with and traveled with a replacement barrel. They would change them out periodically after prolonged fire. But they fired a 7.62 round at 1200 rpm.

Trust me, sustained full auto fire "will" melt barrel steel, up to the point they stop functioning. M-60 barrels are "stellite" lined and still give up, if fired long enough.
In all three videos the barrel is not melting.
Rest assured that barrel in the 3rd video is toast. Barrels melt from the inside out not outside in or front to rear. Technically every shot fired melts barrel steel.

As far as the media who cares what they say. The media does fairly well considering that they have no practical experience whatsoever. Cut them some slack or volunteer to educate them. I'm pretty sure most of them would like to get it right.
