Barrel life VS bullet velocity ?

I have a 22-250 which had to have head space corrected, barrel was set back, chamber reamed etc...

While this was being done I asked the standard, dumb) questions here & was informed that later on when I re barrel there are BETTER calibers to switch to, the 6-22.250, 250 Savage were the two most discussed. The 6mm's having much better bullet selection & being better fliers! Both the 24 & 25 cals giving much greater barrel life than the 22-250.

Looking up different loads for all three of these I discovered that the bullet speed is very similar given the same weight for 22,24 & 25 caliber. Thus the current question is:

How is it possible that I can I get much better barrel life from a 6-22.250- or 250 Savage when the velocity is about the same as the 22-250?

I would appreciate good information on this.

It`s the powder to bore ratio that makes the 6mm better in a 250 case. Altough I don`t think pushing 58gr bullets @3700fps will get you better life than a 22-250, goin 3100fps with a 87gr v-max will.

I shot my 22-250 out in about 900rnds and rebarreled with the 6br, I just got it to the `smith to set back @2000+rnds& lots of dead p.dogs later. I`ll see 1000+ more through it before I rebarrel. I use the 87 v-max @3050 in a 1:10 and get kills out to 600yrds in good conditions.

you aught to try it...
