Barrel life of a 284 Shehane

Hi, can anyone who shoots a 284 Shehane with Berger 180 gr VLDs let me know how many rounds you have shot before you have noticed a serious loss of guilt edged accuracy. I was at a F class competition recently and with about 1800 rounds through my barrel, the accuracy seems to have dropped off pretty quickly. I have checked my rifle / scope / bedding / torques etc and nothing has changed/moved.
Any information would be appreciated.
Good shooting to all.

If you are pushing it fast, or you have a soft barrel, then yes, you will be at that stage now. Mine usualy lasted a bit more, not much, but then I didnt run them too hard. I did have one barrel though which lost its edge much earlier. The gunsmith did say this barrel felt softer than usual. Depending on how far the fire cracking goes, how long your barrel is, what local barrel or gunsmithing prices are, it might not be too far gone for a rechamber.

My Shehane let me down this year at the GB F class long range day, on 1100 rounds. I bore scoped it and didn't think it looked to bad, I let two other people with far more expertise than I look at it and both sucked air through their teeth when they bore scoped it. Basically they both said it had seen it's best which was a pity because it really did shoot well and had a fps of 2990 with 4831SC measured on a Oehler chrono.

I had the barrel re-crowned and I scrubbed it to within an inch of it's life, carbout/patchout and JB and tested it at 600 yards on a F class target on a windless day. I did a 2 plus 15 and the result was a 75.7. Later on this month I will give it a test at a 1000 yards and see what it does.

I'm only going to use it as fire forming and practice barrel from now on though as I will always be doubting the barrel.

I think 1800 rounds is pretty much the bench mark, with some going well over 2000 rounds.

I shoot the 180 Hybrid at ~2940 from 32" Kriegers using H4831 SC. My first barrel went 1658 before it looked so bad that I replaced it. When last shot at the Berger SW Nationals, it did very well. But, I was afraid that it would not make it through the next match. Current Krieger has 938 and is shooting great.
