Barrel length

I could use some help from the gunsmiths.
I`m going to have my XP 100 rebarreled and need to decide on a length. ( 6 BR ) It now has 14 3/4" measuring from front of receiver to muzzle. Is it 14 3/4" long? Or does it correctly measure from breech end?
I`m guessing there is 1" to 1 1/2" of tenon
It`s going to be a 100 yard BR gun. I read about 20" and 21" working well.

20" is too long for a rig like this.
My question is, if I have it cut with 16" from receiver to muzzle, is it actually 16" plus the tenon? And that would give me a 17" to 17 1/2' long barrel.

Thanks for the help

William - Put the bolt in it (No ammo) & close it. - take a cleaning rod and Carefully insert it down the barrel from the muzzle end.
Mark (with a sharpie or the like) the cleaning rod even with the crown at the muzzle.
Carefully withdraw the cleaning rod. - now measure it from the end to your sharpie mark - That's your barrel length.

The tenon on an XP-100 is fairly short. Like half inch of threads... thats the part your barrel lugs/bolt face sit in. So measuring the end of the action to the muzzle is fairly close. You dont make it clear if your doing a rifle her on an XP-100 action or if your talking handgun for this new build.

I new ppc ptg 1 piece bolt and going 6ppc will be more accurate at 100.

"I think his is a hand gun pistols have cylinders"

Revolvers have cylinders.
Pistols, think .45ACP=Automatic Colt pistol.
