Barrel length 6mm BR

Do you think the 105 Scenar can be stabilized with a 1 in 8 twist out of an 18" or 20" barrel? Will be shooting at clay birds at 600 yards and I will be having a Broughton 5c blank cut for both pistol and rifle from 1 blank. How much barrel does this caliber really need at this distance?

Smitty -- 2 barrels from one blank may not be the best decision. Barrels are lapped to function as a whole, not be chopped in half.

Have you talked with Tim about this project? I suppose if he knows your needs, the barrel can be lapped to suit.

Me to was wondering about this...

a 308 shoots a 168 grain bullet out of a 20" barrel without any loss of speed. Cut down from a 26"

This was done by tactical operations, http://www.tacticaloperations.com ), you can read about it in their articles. These are one of the best tactical rifles you can find! used by alot of swat teams in the US. Now this is a tactical rifle, so the need for a short barrel is needed. In the 308 there is no speed lost between 26" and 20", but just 30fps with a 18" barrel.

But say, I want to build a 6BR, with a short barrel. What is the shortest you guys would use? The 6BR uses 20 grains less powder than the 308, so it should be possible to get a full powder burn from a, 18-22" ?

By the way, has anybody tried to chop a barrel in 1" from say 30"-18"? And looked at the speed and accuracy?
