Barrel harmonics

I want to throw something out there to chew on. As I'm in the process of trying it. Barrel whip in sporter/military barrels are great. I'm thinking of sliding a sleeve over the barrel's chamber and all the way to the muzzle. A plug at the end that keeps it centered around the muzzle. Got to figure the design out..I could drill holes underneath the tube at different places to screw in a set screw .Just to see if I can effect accuracy. Thoughts?

JMHO but I think working WITH the harmonics of a given barrel via powder, powder charge, primer choice, bullet choice, seating depth etc. would be the way to go but Best Wishes if you choose to try this idea. Maybe it IS possible to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. LOL

you could try a tension barrel set-up..it's a collar centered where the barrel meets the action, a stainless steel tube from there to the muzzle of the barrel to another centered collar that fits over the muzzle and can be threaded onto the barrel end. Then you tighten until you find the sweet spot for your load. It's like stretching the barrel to make it stronger and straighter. Some folks have had good luck with it. Good shooting.

Thanks for the replies. I like the tension idea. Oh, I suppose I could buy a barrel. Where's the fun in that?

I purchases this rifle through an auction, over 4 forums no one knew what they were looking at, ugly? I could not believe anyone could build a rifle in this configuration without knowing what they were doing. I loaded 12 different loads of 10 rounds each, the groups moved, some groups shared the same hole, the groups did not open up,

For $120.00 I started with the sum of the parts, after taking it to the range I decided I would leaver the way I found-er. There is little chance accuracy can be improved upon.

These folks have been doing it a while. I think you should go for it. Fabricate something to get that sporter weight barrel to shoot, without the weight of a bull. Let us know what you come up with.

Back in the 1980s before store bought tuners, some of the shooter/smith guys built tuners....Apiece of steel shaft 3" long(+-) with a hole drilled the long way with a loose fit on the barrel...The hole drilled 50 or 60 thou off center..two holes drilled and tapped opposite the lobe..By loosen the set screws and rotating the cylinder and/or sliding it along the barrel variation in accuracy would be achieved. Only minor movement required..Cheap way to accurize a dud...LT
