barrel coppering fast

I have a Savage model 10T in 6.5 creedmoor, after i clean the barrel and shoot 2 rounds, then go for group, i notice the next 5 rounds are very accurate, let barrel cool next 5 not quite as good, then after 15 rounds the accuracy goes south, seems like my barrel coppers up fairly fast especially in the first 6 inches, i do feel a little more resistance with the brush in that area, i have 800 rounds thru the barrel by now, i did use JB bore patse a few times, anything i can try to get more shots before the accuracy drops off.

John Barness (sp?) over on the 24hourcampfire use a bore treatment on Savage rifles. It doesn't make it shoot better, just cleans easier.
If you look at a Savage barrel with a bore scope they look like 40 miles of BAD ROAD. The surface finish looks like a file.

Just an Idea. You might want to to try the Tubb fire lapping bullets. I have never tried them. If that fails there is always the prefit barrel option. There are a lot of manufactures making them for Savages now.

After 800 rounds I'd say you have a 5 round accurate, 25 round max rifle. It is what it is.

Have you considered an aftermarket pre-fit of some sort?

You need to be careful doing this. My buddy thought it would help him break in a new Krieger 1.450 diameter barrel. He ended up shooting two more grains of powder and it never shot as good as it should of. I forget how many he shot but it opened up the bore. I can see trying it in a really rough factory barrel because what do you have to lose. Just limit the number of them. Matt

Copper mine barrels are standard because the aren't smooth. I never have fire leaped them . But sure have used many strokes with JB .
I jb every barrel after it is chambered .
None have had a copper issue . A trace. Of copper is normal as long it is just a trace .
Seems every one want squeak clean Brass and barrels I don't want either . Polished yes . Larry

I have never tried it. And don't intend to. Maybe on a rough factory barrel that has one last chance before it gets replaced. Maybe someone out here will try it and let us know how it works. LOL. I'm sure Tubb will say it works great. But, like I said just an idea.
